"Mom! Hey, can I ask you something?" I questioned that night.

The entire day had seemed like one surprise after another. From Tsukishima showing up, to our performance, to the joint practice announcement.

Of course, I was ecstatic. I loved playing keys, and Asahi had even offered to take me to get a keytar. Now I just had to covince my mom to let me join officially.

She walked out of her room all business like as per usual. "What is it Hitoka?"

I dug around in my bag for a minute. "W-well I was just wondering..."

"Spit it out," my mother said.

"I just wanted to join the, uhm, music club. And I needed you to s-sign this to let me go t-to this joint practice thing," I explained nervously.

"Hmmm, you don't sound like you want this that much. Besides, you don't have time to worry about trivial things like music," she mused. She apparently felt the conversation was over and walked off.

I sighed. "Yeah. Right."

Great. I chickened out again. I could never stand up to my mom. Everytime I asked her for something, I got too nervous and intimidated to be able to convey what I wanted.

I decided to take a walk to try and clear my mind. I grabbed my coat, threw on my shoes, and stepped outside.

I kept cursing myself as I walked down the street. Why couldn't I just work up my confidence and ask her? Hesitation made her think I didn't want it.

"Hitoka, you idiot. Stop being such a wimp."

"Yachi?"

I looked up in surprise to see Hinata standing there. He wore a tight tank top that hugged his stomach. A plain black choker decorated his neck and he wore black ripped skinny jeans with Vanz. The entire look, along with his abnormal hair color, was causing people to stare at him.

"O-oh! Hinata, hi!" I said.

He smiled. "What's up? You already ask your mom to sign the paper?"

I looked down. "Actually, I don't know if I'll be going..."

"What!?" he shouted, causing the stares to double. "Did your parents say no or something?"

"Yeah, my mom did," I admitted.

Suddenly, my hand was being grabbed by the red-head. He practically dragged me in the direction I came from.

"Hinata, what are you doing!?" I yelled.

"Where's your house?" he askes, ignoring me.

Almost immediately, I realized what he was going to do. "Oh my god, no! Trust me, if she said no to me, there's no way she'll concede to a stranger. And a boy, no less. Hinata let me go!"

He stopped turned back with a frown. "Yachi, I know you want this. You're too happy when you play your keyboard. I won't let you cop out just because your mother said no."

"What do you think you'll be able to do?" I questioned. "She's impossible and intimidating as fuck."

His eyes widened slightly. "Woah, Marshmallow cursed."

"Marshmallow?"

He scratched the back of his neck. "Sorry. The guys and I kinda came up with the nickname. It's just," He reached out and sandwiched my face between his hands. "Your soft and adorable. Like a little marshmallow."

I blinked and slowly pushed his hands away. "You know what, I don't even care. Let's get back to the topic at hand.

"Right! I'm gonna try and convince her. Maybe she'll listen to me?" he said, giving me a small smile.

"Fine," I answered. "But don't cry to me when she says no."

___

"Who are you?" my mother questioned.

"Hinata Shoyo," Hinata replied, holding out a hand. "I'm the guitarist in the Karasuno Music Club."

"You mean that little thing Hitoka was going in about?" she asked, gingerly shaking his hand.

Hinata nodded. "Ma'am, if you don't mind me asking, why isn't Yachi allowed to join the music club?"

My mother raised an eyebrow. "Hinata, is it? Why should it matter why she can't join? The point is that she isn't allowed."

"But she loves the music club! You'll really deprive her of something she loves?"

"Loves the music club?" my mother smirked. "The girl didn't sound that way. In fact, she sounded as if she hoped I would say no."

I looked between the two, my impatience steadily growing. At her last sentence, I finally snapped.

"How would you know? You only ever do what you think is best for me. Not even that. You only ever let me do things that'll make you look good," I shouted, catching both of them off guard. "I want to join the music club, okay? I'm really good on the keyboard and they need me and I want to play!"

The silence echoed in the room after my sudden outburst. Hinata looked absolutely stunned, and rightfully so. I hesitantely looked at my mother and was surprised to see her smiling.

"Finally, I got through to you. You can't have a good life without the three C's. Confidence, conviction, and cash," she stated. "Now where's that form? I believe I need to sign it."

Hinata and I looked at each other then back at her with huge grins. "Thank you so much!" we both said.

I quickly grabbed the paper and handed it to my mother, the smile still on my face. She signed it quickly and handed it back.

"I assume I'll be on my own for dinner tomorrow?" she asked.

"Oh, uhm, yeah. We'll be stopping for dinner on the way back," I answered.

"Very well. Have fun, sweetheart," she said. "Oh, and Hinata? You're a good friend. Look after my daughter, will you? She needs someone as confident as you. Standing up to someone else's mom like that."

Hinata blushed and scratched the back of his neck. "U-uhm, yeah. Yes ma'am."

We rushed outside and Hinata burt into a fit of laughter. I gave him a questioning look.

"I d-don't think she realized I'm g-gay," he said in between laughs.

And then I was joining him because hell, I didn't know either. Thinking about it, it was so obvious.

God, music club was going to be fun.
