Prompt: An enchanted forest in which an epiphany is reached.

The moonlight shone down on the small clearing, illuminating a young fairy, her wings sparkling as they caught the light. At first glance the fairy seemed dead, as she was lying, face down, not moving an inch. However, if one looked closer they would notice the shallow rise and fall of her silk covered chest. the fairy was not dead, but sleeping. Her life gem had been stolen from her, and she would remain sleeping until her thief returned it. Said thief was watching the fairy, his fairy, as he held her life gem in his hands. He would only have to break it and his sleeping fairy would never awaken again. The thief  shifted, placing the small gem on a rock. All he had to do was step on it and all of his misery would end. The young fairy was the cause of all of this. If she had just stayed in the deepest parts of the forest where she belonged he never would have seen, never would have fallen under her spell. She was all he could think about. She had consumed his life the moment he'd laid eyes on her. She had stolen his time, his attention, even his sanity. Fairy's were never meant to be seen by human eyes. It was her fault he was like this. Her fault he couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. As long as she lived he could not, not truly. Yes, in order for him to live again his fairy must die. He raised his foot and hovered it over the gem. It was emitting a faint light, a show that its owner would not live much longer. Her thief hesitated, looking over at his fairy once more. She was truly beautiful and he hated her for it. Her wings shone with the moonlight, her porcelain skin glowing. He growled quietly at her sleeping form, his body wanting nothing more than to wipe the peaceful smile off her face, while his mind wanted only to hold her and let her be his forever. He slammed his foot down violently. The small life gem shattered instantly, the still glowing pieces flying in all directions. The young fairy, his fairy, screamed and spasmed, thrashing her arms and legs wildly. Her thief's eyes widened. Pain shot through his chest as the fairy crushed her wings in her painful struggle. She went silent a few moments later, and the thief fell to his knees. Why did he hurt? Killing his fairy was supposed to return him to normal. Why was he still under her spell? Pain ran up his spine and he curled up on the ground. He turned his head and saw his fairy. She was staring at him, tears pooling in her lifeless eyes. Yet a loving smile was set on her face and finally he understood. She had never cast a spell on him. She was truly his fairy, and he truly her thief. They had always belonged to each other, they completed each other. He had destroyed his other half, and her spirit wanted him to fallow her into destruction. He stared at her as his life ebbed away. Before he slipped into the darkness a smile spread on his lips. He died the same as she, watching the one he belonged to.
