    Prompt: Crossroads and Fairies

"Wow." I say quietly. I was in the middle of The Forest Of Life, completely lost. 'Well this is just perfect! Which way am I suppose to go now?' I think grouchily. Getting lost in The Forest Of Life was near impossible. The path is completely straight and always visible, as part of it's enchantment. The path will move to take you to any destination you may want to go, with no crossroads, just a straight forward path. Yet here I am, standing at a crossroad. I growl and sit on a nearby rock. The thing about this forest is, even when two separate paths look exactly the same, they lead to very different places. The only reason the path will split is if an inhabitant of the forest takes a liking to you. It hardly ever happens, and really I should feel honoured, but the knowledge makes me queasy. I've been through here hundreds of times. All of the creatures here know me, and they've never taken interest before. So why now?

The sun slides behind the skyline while i'm thinking, and small balls of light start dancing through the underbrush. The darker it gets the higher the little lights climb, until their twisting and twirling through the air. My mood lightens as I watch them, and one of the smallest lights, glowing a dark blue, breaks formation and floats to me. I hold my hand out to It and It lands gently. The glow slowly dims until it was just a faint outline around what seemed to be the silhouette of a small person. Upon looking closer I notice that It's body is see through, with small bolts of navy blue light shooting through it quickly and randomly. Clear, pointed wings stuck out from Its back, flapping slowly as It tried to keep Its balance. I blink down at it and gently pull my hand closer to my face, being careful not to knock It over. I stop when It's just a few inches from my face, and see that It has none of its own. It's small head was blank, where the face was suppose to be looked exactly the same as the rest of It's body.  It leaned forward until It's head hit my noes. We stayed in that positions for a few seconds before It pulled back and turned away from me, Its tiny wings becoming a blur and small fingers grabbing one of my own large ones as It lifted from my hand.

It pulled my finger as It flew forward, and reluctantly I fallowed. The other lights starting moving closer, until the formed a ring around me. They guided me back to the crossroad, their lights glowing brighter the closer we got. We come to a stop, and the little thing, that I suppose must be a fairy, lets go of my finger. It flies to the mouth of the left path, Its glow becoming brighter.'This must be the one who took a liking to me. The pathway home is to the right then.' I slowly head to the right path, but something stops me. I feel a tugging on my hair, and turn to see that it's the fairy. It has a strand of my long black hair clasped tightly in It's tiny hands, and It's pulling as hard as It can. Guilt washes over me as I watch It struggle desperately to make me fallow, the navy blue bolts flashing through It's body erratically. After a few breathless minutes the guilt becomes to much and I cave. It happily presses Its face against my cheek, Its arms squeezing my jaw in a make-shift hug as I walk down the left path.

My body begins to feel lighter the farther I walk, and all the other fairies begin glowing like torches, though my own fairy has yet to release Its hold on my jaw. A soft hum flows through the forest, filling my body with energy. The tree's become taller and my fairy's hold gets tighter, moving from my jaw to my shoulders and eventually my waist. My hands become see through and small bolts of light, the color of faded denim, whisped across the inside of my body. I flexed my back and felt wings there, flapping quickly to keep me aloft in the night air. I looked to the fairy who still held my waist, and saw that his face was no longer blank. Two light blue eyes looked into my dark blue ones, and I knew why he waited. This was the first time i've come through The Forest Of Life with no one waiting for me on the other side. I smile and return his embrace. The other fairies begin to dance around us, and as the moon reaches its peak in the sky, we join them.
