The next week passes quickly. Dad had hepatitis B as well so everyone who was on tour went to get tested. Somehow, the damage was only to the 5 of us. We've all been confirmed to be in the acute phase which means it is treatable. We were all told we should stay on bed rest as much as possible until we test negative.
I was given a home test so I could test weekly to see if it is still reading positive. My bandmates have been mainly helping Lisa take care of the babies. I feel like shit today, emotionally more than anything.
Kellin and Vic are both sharing my bed. I cuddle into Vic. "I feel like my mind is falling back into a dark place." I feel him nod. "Please be safe." "I'm trying."
Eventually, I'm getting sick of laying inside. "I'm going on a walk. I'll be back." I walk a little and see a horrifying sight. Tom is in Mom's arms and they are in the middle of the street.
I see a car come speeding down the road. "Mom! Look out!" I run up to her and manage to push her out of the way before I feel an intense pain. I feel myself go airborne and then I land on the ground, sending pain radiating through my body.
I hear Mom's voice faintly. "Alex! Jack! Someone, please help!" I hear Jack's voice appear next to me. He checks for a pulse. "She still has a pulse, it is really weak though. Alex, call 911." I hear Jack focus his attention back to me.
"Hey, Rachel, can you hear me? Don't nod or shake your head, say verbally." I manage to get my voice to work. "Yeah. It hurts." "I know, it'll be okay. Alex is calling for help. Can you tell me what hurts?"
"Everything." I feel myself fading. "I love you guys." I fade out. I wake up in a hospital bed. "What happened?" "You pushed Lisa out of the way and got hit by a car. Your right tibia is broken, your right knee had dislocated, your left collar bone, humerus, radius, and ulna all were snapped, you have a few broken ribs, and a pretty severe concussion. Your neck and back are also broken, both of which are thankfully not severe."
I cough some and wince in pain.
3 years later
I'm finishing tour with my band. It's my first tour since the accident because the damage was pretty extensive. It's our last show. "What's up LA?" There is a lot of cheering. "It's great to be back. Let's get this show on the road!" We go straight into a powerful song.
It's amazing how much my life has changed. I'm not married to Johnnie, I have three beautiful kids, I'm a rockstar who is pretty well known, and I am persevering through everything the world throws at me, rather than following my old instincts to quit.
