Ke Ruan frowned. First the county magistrate said most of the guards he sent never came back. Then he said no man had ever made it there. There must be something wrong.

Lin Qingye said, "Get up. Is there anybody who came back alive?"

"Bring him here."

"Yes! Your Highness."

After a while, a man dressed in a gown in his twenties came. He glanced at Li Kan and the advisor, then knelt down at Lin Qingye, "General Lin." 

Lin Qingye said, "Do you know where Qiao Shan set the guard?"

The man shook his head and said, "I have no idea. That bandit is way too crafty. We got exposed every time we went there."

Lin Qingye frowned and said, "What about others? Do they know?"

The man shook his head again and said, "General, other people were either injured or dead. I'm the only one that was lucky enough to survive." 

Lin Qingye stood up and muttered under his breath for a while, then said, "We should give the matter further thought and discuss it later.  Let's train and reorganize the soldiers first. "

Li Kan showed the way in person and settled them down.

He sighed silently.

Ke Ruan was just about to reply when he heard Lin Qingye saying," If you really want to go there, I can go with you."
