You woke up the next day to brilliant sunshine. You got out of bed and fed yourself, then got washed and dressed and brushed your teeth. You didn't really see much of your father any more, not since he got his new job in the neighbouring city. He got up before you in the mornings and got home frequently after you'd gone to bed. On the weekends he kept himself to himself - you accepted the fact he was most likely still grieving the loss of his wife and just left him to it. You still looked out for him, making sure the dishes were done and he always had clean work clothes ready. That was your own way of supporting him and you knew that he appreciated it, even if he didn't day so.

As you were cleaning up your breakfast dishes, your phone buzzed in your pocket.

"Still up for our plans today? :3" the text message from Koichi read.

"Yes! Absolutely!" you replied.

"Awesome. Meet us at my house at 1pm - I have drinks in the fridge but bring something if you don't like beer!"

Ew, beer. You made a mental note to leave the house a little earlier so you could stop at the off-licence and pick up some ciders on the way to Koichi's.

(Ok so I realised after writing this that the legal drinking age in Japan is 20, not 18 like it is in the UK 🙃😅. For my sake please just pretend the legal drinking age is 18 🙏🏻😩)

You spent the rest of your morning getting a head-start on your university coursework, just in case you ended up with a little hangover tomorrow. Coursework is definitely not the cure for a hangover.

Before long, the little clock on your desk told you the time was 12:45. You left your coursework on your desk, put your keys, ID and debit card in your pocket and made your way out of your house and towards Koichi's. You remembered from your previous exploring that the off-licence was on the way to Koichi's, so it was no trouble for you to stop off on the way.

As you were leaving the little shop, ciders clinking in a disposable shopping bag, you accidentally bumped into someone. A tall man with streaky grey and black hair, wearing a light grey suit and a strange purple tie looked down at you, clear distaste on his features. You held your hands up and apologised for not looking at where you were going properly. When you looked back up at the man, you noticed he wasn't really paying you much attention, rather, he was more interested in your bag of ciders. No, that was wrong. You realised he was more interested in the hand holding the bag of ciders.

The man stopped looking at your hand and glanced back up at your face. He had what someone might consider to be a lustful look in his eyes. You immediately felt incredibly uncomfortable. The man looked as though he was about to say something to you, but you apologised again before he could say anything and made a speedy getaway, goosebumps on the back of your neck despite the warm weather. You didn't look back until you got to Koichi's house.

You knocked on the front door and were greeted soon after by Koichi inviting you into his house. He closed the door then lead you through the house and into the back garden. Koichi had set up some garden furniture, including a large sun umbrella. You also noticed a bucket full of water and ice with a few beers floating in it, so you walked over to add your ciders to the mix. Before you got there, Koichi called your name to grab your attention.

"Y/N, this is Josuke and this is Okuyasu," he said, gesturing to the two men sat next to one another on a couple of garden chairs. You looked round, only to see the two people you had been hoping to see at work. The one called Okuyasu looked a bit surprised to see you, raising both eyebrows almost comically.  The one called Josuke stood up and smiled, holding his hand out towards you.

"Hello, Y/N," he said.

"Hello, Josuke," you replied, taking his hand and shaking it.

I hope all this makes sense - I wrote all of this last night. I couldn't sleep because I stretched my ears up again and they hurt just enough so stop me from falling asleep 🙃
