High school wasn't that different from middle school. I was still getting the same chirps from the other team's players and even some guys at my school. Still, none of the guys on my team ever said anything about it and I could tell that they were basically all scared of me.
I was talking with a few girls in my English class because Zack wasn't in the same class as me. I had advanced English while he was in the CP course. There were a few girls behind me, whispering to each other. I heard "he's super hot" and figured that they were talking about a guy in our grade. I'm not into anyone at the moment and I really haven't been focusing on that for a while. I'm only a freshman, I'll figure it out at some point.
"Hey," One of the girls said to me. I barely knew her, but I turned around.
"Me?" I asked.
"Isn't your dad Mathew Barzal?" She asked.
"Yeah," I said.
The girl looked at her friend and giggled.
"See, I told you," She said to her friend.
I rolled my eyes and turned around.
"He is really hot," My new friend Kaitlyn said to me.
"He's a thirty-five-year-old man, how could you possibly have a crush on him?" I asked, looking back at my book.
"Okay, one, he's kinda hot... have you seen him before we were born?" Kaitlyn asked.
"Yeah, the playoff beard is a huge chick magnet," I said sarcastically.
"Oh, yeah, I forgot that you were born the day that your dad won the Cup," Kaitlyn said. "It's probably why you're so talented at hockey,"
I slightly smiled but kept reading.
The girls behind me kept whispering. Mrs. Salema, my teacher, asked us to get into groups of four for a book club project. I wanted to be with Kaitlyn. The girls behind me asked to be in our group, but I told them we already had one.
"We don't have a group," Kaitlyn whispered.
"Kyle and Ryan can be our partners," I looked to the left side of me who sat Kyle and Ryan.
"You wanna be in our group?" Kyle asked me.
"Yeah," I said.
Kaitlyn elbowed my sides. She has had the biggest crush on Kyle since the fourth grade.
"Cool," Kyle smiled and looked at Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn subtly smiled back, but I knew that she was going crazy inside.
"Okay, guys!" Mrs. Salema told the class. "This project will mostly get done in class, but some work does need to go in at home,"
Kaitlyn and I looked at each other and then back at the teacher.
"You could get together out of school or split up the project according to your group," Mrs. Salema told us. "You can go ahead and get started,"
I looked at Kyle and Ryan.
"What do you wanna do the project on?" I asked.
"Oh! Edgar Allen Poe!" Ryan said. "His stories are super gory, it's awesome!"
"Not gonna happen," Kyle looked at his buddy. "I don't wanna read something that puts me to sleep,"
"It's literally not that hard," Ryan said.
"How about something easier than that," I suggested.
"Shakespeare?" Ryan asked.
"Bro, why do you have to be such a smart ass all the time?" Kyle asked Ryan.
