Epilogue
Thursday April 12th, Interrogation Room 4b, Tape 1
5:36pm: Detective Baynes reads the suspect's rights before starting recording.
Detective: “Good afternoon, Miss Marcov.”
Suspect: “…”
Detective: “Okay then, let's get down to business.” Papers shuffle. “Where were you around 10:47 on the night of Tuesday, March 19th?”
Suspect: “...”
Detective: “Let me remind you, anything you say can and will be used against you, but if you can give us any information concerning Miss Young's case the repercussions could be lessened.”
Suspect: Sighs, sounding annoyed “At a party. There were a lot of people there. Ask them.”
Detective: “What were you doing at the party?”
Suspect: “What do you think? It was just a normal night. I danced, I drank, I had a good time with my friends.”
Detective: “There was alcohol at the party?”
Suspect: “So what? I was sober the entire time.” Pause “What are you writing down?”
Detective: “Did you see Miss Young leaving the premises?”
Suspect: “No. I was with Courtney Vega. V-e-g-a. She'll tell you.” Suspect stands “Are we done here?”
Detective: “Sit down.”
Suspect sits
Detective: “We've already pulled your friend in. She said, and I quote-” Detective clears throat and read off of file “'I don't know what this is about. Yeah, I hope Ricki gets better, but I was with my boyfriend the entire time. What? No. Tia disappeared a couple of minutes after we got there. Come to think of it, I haven't seen her since.'” Detective sets document down and leans forward “Do you wish to comment?”
Suspect: Snorts in disbelief “She doesn't know what she's talking about. Between you and me, I never really liked her in the first place. Kinda a dunce, you know?”
Detective: “Last night an employee at a local gas station called in to report of a female, brown eyes, short black hair, disheveled look-”
Suspect: Cuts in “So my hair was messed up. That's not a reason to call the police.”
Detective: “Quiet. Where was I?” Pause “-disheveled look, clothes stained with what appeared to be blood... responded roughly to the clerk's attempts to call help... apprehended shortly after fleeing the premises-”
Suspect: Laughs “Fleeing the premises? She was being annoying, so I left.”
Detective: “-and brought in for questioning concerning an attack earlier that night.”
Suspect: Agitated “I didn't do anything wrong-!”
Detective: Calmly “Tests say that the blood soaking your clothes isn't yours. Who's is it, Miss Marcov?”
Suspect: “...”
Detective: “Why did you attack Ricki Young that night?”
Suspect: “You have no proof-”
Detective: Slides picture across table “This knife was found hidden in a bush two miles behind the Young household. Can you guess who's fingerprints are all over the handle?”
Suspect: Pushes picture away without looking at it “I have rights I'm entitled to by law. I want a lawyer.”
Detective: “Are you admitting to the crime?”
Suspect: “...”
Detective: “Do you have anything to add?”
Suspect: “...”
Detective: “I guess we're done, then.” Stands “Tiana Marcov, you are hereby under arrest for attempted manslaughter. Better find yourself a good lawyer, young lady. You'll need one.”
