 Chapter 14

 Unknown POV

She was talking to Zachary Freeman yesterday. She looked angry. Good. If she was mad at him, it led me to the conclusion that he was aggravating her.

 Also good.

If she didn't like him, that meant there was one less person in the way of getting what I want.

But I had to be sure, so I sent her a... present, if you would, to warn her. She needs to understand what is mine.

I had to work fast, before what belonged to me was stolen. Mine before yours, I chanted in my head, watching them. Mine.

I smiled, liking the sound of that. Mine, mine, mine. It was like the lyrics to a song.

 Mine mine mine.

 Ha.

She turned on her heel and left. Zachary frowned at her retreating back and I drew my eyebrows together. I wanted to follow after her, but needed a second to process everything. So, even though she had no interest in him, he wanted her. He even had the nerve to look hurt about her rejection. Bad move, Freeman.

"Mine," I breathed out under my breath and ran my fingers over my scalp, probably sending my dark hair in crazy spikes. Zachary glanced in my direction and I backed up a little, hiding in the shadows. Still he studied the spot I was in before recognition struck his features and he smirked. At me. Jerk.

He called my name, approaching. Startled, I ran. I wasn't used to being caught. I had watched many times when he was talking to her and neither of them noticed.

I still needed to put the finishing touches on my plan before I took action, before I could reveal myself.

 Soon, though. Soon.

 .................

 Ricki's POV

I watched the buildings wiz by. The farther we drove the more the surrounding trees overtook the scenery until we finally left the town. Ranch style homes dotted the landscape and I knew we had entered the 'higher-up' community as each house grew bigger and more extravagant.

"Close your eyes," Aaden said, cutting into my train of thought.

I turned away from the window to glance at him. "Why?"

"It won't be much of a surprise if you can see where we're going," he explained. I obeyed, anxious to see where Aaden was taking us.

"So, how much longer?" I asked after a couple of seconds.

 "That much longer."

"Smart alec," I mumbled. "But seriously, I need to use the little girl's room," I said, fidgeted in the cold seat.

"It's not that far," he answered, chuckling.

I sighed. "I've held it this long..."

Aaden turned the radio up and we drove on. Finally, when I felt like my bladder was going to burst, Aaden slowed down.

"We're here, Princess. You can look now."

I blinked my eyes open and looked around. We were heading up a pebble stone road surrounded by trees. I gazed ahead to see the drive loop around in front of a white-washed building.
