After many months of what had quickly become almost daily contact once we started making music together and touring, Christine's birthday came about, she hadn't even wanted to celebrate but Mick, John and the others had somehow set it up, there was lots of random people and random banter and I enjoyed hearing some things about Christine from her husband at the time, John of course and Mick had playfully showed off some pictures of Christine when she was younger, I loved seeing photos of her and how she had changed and became even more beautiful, I loved hearing her voice as she thanked the people who'd come to share this night with her. But the moment that sparked into my consciousness was when her thanks turned to some of the other people, when she finished with "and my gorgeous best friend, Stevie".
People descended upon her as the night dragged on, but somehow, I worked my way through the crowd to come face-to-face with her. As soon as her eyes met mine, her face split into a grin, and I grabbed her in a tight hug. She turned her head and reached up to place a peck on my cheek, and I felt warm and tingly as she said "Thank you for making my birthday special Stevie!" it meant so much to know, even though I did barely anything, my company and presence meant so much to her.
