This was an ancient study (though also considered as a branch of philosophy) that was used as tool for teaching the experimental aspect of things, which means changing their form. Example of this is transforming silver into gold. The main purposes of alchemy were to discover the way of changing one chemical to the next, to discover the philosopher stone and the eternal medium for youth and health. Alchemy is sometimes considered as a scientific study that enhances a belief in the occult. The six pointed star and the symbols of alchemy support this argument. Some even argued that alchemy was quite a dangerous scientific study that it was banned from ever being used as a branch of science in some countries.
