Chapter 39

HICCUP

I feel something heavy on top of my head. Opening my eyes, I smell the scent of sweat and soil at the same time. What is that smell? It doesn't stink much but it's a different smell. A smell that I didn't get to smell before. I am laying on the ground, hugged by a big black scaly creature. I shiver, shock of what I see.

Its green eyes look at me, tamed. "W-who are you?", A loud explosion boomed again around us. The creature hold me tighter. It scowls, I realize that it have wound in its chest. The creature with big black sharp wings shrink into a small dog. T-toothless...? It's my dog! I ran over to him and check his wound. I pant hard, the smoke scattered around us make me cough and see less of him.

I put my hand on Toothless's chest to stop the bleeding. I, myself is bleeding too but all that matters is saving my buddy's life. This dog mean a lot to me. "Help!", I shouted. Where are my squad!? Are they safe?!

"Help!", I shouted again. Tears stroll down my cheeks as I press my hand harder against Toothless's chest to add pressure. The poor dog pant weakly. "Help!", I shouted again. Someone from the shadow came running and realize it was Astrid.

"Captain Haddock!", Astrid yell worriedly. She blocks every hit that are coming our way, covering us. "We need to evacuate! We are surrounded!", She clenched her teeth. Astrid shoot back, dragging me with Toothless. We avoid every hit, debris that falls on our way. Astrid and I ran fast, I made sure that Toothless will survive this war. I saw the twins waiting for us at the gates.

The sound of the engine roared to life as we evacuate the base. "Where is the other squad?! Are they safe?! How about Captain Jack's team?!", I asked worriedly. Snotlout grab Toothless and heals him with the help of Fishlegs. The twins look at each other before looking down. Astrid sighed. "We received a call from Captain Jack, Private Hamada and Colonel Rick died"

My heart beat fast.

The enemies came unannounced. I just got off the mess when an explosion occured not so far away from the building I exited. ".....", I couldn't say a thing. My hands trembled.

"They killed the dogs", Ruffnut sighed.

"We are assigned there earlier but we saw a traitor. We saw Sargeant Westergard enter the kennels, minutes before the war occurred", Toughnut clutch the gun angrily.

"Where's my dad?!", I feel nervous all of a sudden. A loud sigh surrounded the vehicle, all of their eyes expresses mourn. "Wha...guys ..Tell me what happened!?", my eyes started to tear up.

"He ...died...General Moon tried to save him but he passed..", Gobber said. He's the one driving the truck.

I felt my soul left me.

I suddenly feel empty. All of the memories I had with my father flashbacks, causing me to sob hard on my palm. Astrid hug me tight, rubbing my back. He's dead...

We arrived at the evacuation station, I saw how many bodies are laying on the ground covered with white blanket. Arranged like a piece of book that are about to be checked. On the left where a bigger tent exist, lies the wounded soldiers. I saw the Captains inside, they are wounded as well. "Hiccup", I heard General Moon said behind me.

"We will see you later, please get well soon Captain Haddock", Astrid said sadly.

"We will take care of Toothless", Toughnut and Roughnut said.

I felt broken that I couldn't say a word.

"Follow me", General Moon said. This is the longest time I have seen his face. He have been flawless since then. Up until now, he doesn't have a wound which angers me a little. My father died and this man doesn't even have...a wound. General Moon stand strong, flawless and look like a personification of the man in the moon. He look exactly like him. I scrunched my eyebrows as I follow him to a separated tent.
