Alex's POV
I trudge my way over to the slicers. I see Winston waiting outside, he looks impatient. As I get closer, the smell of the blood gets stronger.
"Took you long enough, where've you been?" He says while crossing his arms.
"Hoping to be sick." I say.
"Your not getting off that lightly."
"I wish." I mutter. Winston pulls back a curtain that has faint blood spots on it. As soon as I step in, the smell of blood hits me like a rock. I turn to look at Winston with pleading puppy eyes and he just shakes his head.
"Right! You'll start with feeding and cleaning out the animals. After you've done that, you'll be doing the best part of the job!" He says with real excitement in his voice.
"Is the best part leaving?" I ask hopefully.
"Nope! Joe will show you the basics. See ya later greenie." Winston walks away and a boy who must be Joe walks up to me.
"Hey Alex, your going to love this job." He says while smirking, an obvious attempt at flirting.
"And how would I love it?" I retort.
"Because I'm here."
"Just remember that there is a bunch of meat cleavers here so I would watch your back. You might never know, a little accident might happen." I smirk and look at Joe who has lost quite a bit of colour.
"C-c'mon lets g-go." He walks away with me in tow. He takes me to a pen and shows me the food and how to clean them out.
After about an hour of feeding and cleaning out, I walk over to where Winston is. I regret walking in from the side as he was butchering a cow. Winston looks up and laughs, he walks over and wipes blood off his face.
"Are you ready for the best part of the job?" He says.
"I'm ready to be sick, so no." I say.
He slaps me on the back and says, "you'll be fine, it's not even that much when you get used to it." Right as he says that, I'm sick right at his feet. Most of it got onto his shoes.
"Winston! I'm so sorry!" I rush.
"It's fine, the supplies should be coming up in a couple of days. Hopefully I'll get new shoes. You might want to go the medjacks, you're still looking a bit green." I nod my head and walk out of the building and walk over to the homestead. As I'm walking over, I notice that I don't see Newt around. I bump into Alby on the way over,
"Alex, are you ok? Your looking a bit green."
"Let's just say, the slicers or not for me." He nods his head in understanding.
"Let's get you to the medjacks." He slings his arm around my shoulders and supports me as I walk. When we finally get the rooms the medjacks or in, Alby sets me down on one of the beds.
"Jeff! Clint! The greenie needs you." He shouts. I hear two sets of feet walking along a corridor. Two people walk into the room and walk over to the bed that I'm sitting on.
"What's happened?" A dark skinned boy asked me. (A/N) )I'm sorry if I offend anyone with how I'm describing Jeff and Clint. I do not intend to be racist in anyway.)
"Slicers. What's your name?" I ask.
"I can see why your green and my name's Clint, the one standing behind me is Jeff." I nod my head to Jeff and he nods back with a sincere smile.
Clint turns to Alby,"we'll keep her here for the rest of the day but she looks dehydrated, to make sure she's getting enough fluids." Alby nods and starts to walk away.
"Alby! Can you say to Winston 'sorry about the shoes' please?" He turns back around and gives me a questions look, "I puked on his shoes." As I finished saying this, Alby's eyes were nearly bulging out of his head trying to hold in his laughter while Jeff and Clint were gasping for breath because they were laughing so hard. Alby nods his head and leaves the room, I lay down on the bed and Jeff hands me a glass of water.
"Just little sips every half hour, Clint or I will stay in the room so we can check the time and make sure you can keep down the fluids." Jeff says.
"Thanks." I take a sip and lay down on the bed, it wasn't very comfortable but it will do. I feel my eyes start to get heavier and I fall asleep.
Every half an hour, I get woken up and I take sip and fall asleep. I keep repeating the routine until I'm woken up for dinner. A small bowl of chicken soup is on a bedside table. I start eating the soup, I still feel a little queasy but I keep eating it until my bowl is empty. After I give the bowl back to Clint, I lay back down and try to fall asleep again. It doesn't take very long for me to fall asleep. As I'm about to fall asleep, I hear a door opening and shutting. I hear loud footsteps coming closer to my bed, once the person is at my bed. All I can hear is heavy breathing.(A/N again).
