A/N: I have a LOT of headcanons for carulia so I thought I'd post some of them in a oneshot :)
-Julia is a big tea drinker. She'll have the occasional craving for a cup of coffee, but tea is her usual go to drink.
-Carmen teases her endlessly about "being the stereotypical English tea drinker."
-Carmen, as one might expect, is an insane coffee drinker. She argues that you need that kind of boost when you're jumping several time zones daily.
-But even after VILE is taken down, she still consumes an unhealthy amount of coffee each day. Old habits die hard.
-Julia is a massive history bookworm. She'll read anything and everything historic she can get her hands on, including historical fiction. She likes to critique the author's use of historical accuracy, to Carmen's immense amusement.
-Sometimes she will rant for hours on end about how important historic accuracy is in fiction. And Carmen will sit by, listening attentively and trying—but always failing—to keep a straight face. Julia pretends to be annoyed but can't help but join in at the look on Carmen's face when she tries to hold in her laughter.
-When Julia isn't reading, she's blogging about books she has read recently. She runs two separate blogs, her academic blog through Oxford, and the other, far less conservative, personal blog. It's a lot of work, but at the end of the day she's reaching more people with history and literature, which in her opinion, is a very worthwhile cause. So what's a little stress?
-Besides, in comparison to being partnered with Agent Devineaux and Agent Zari, the stress of keeping up two blogs is nothing.
-Julia as a writer.
-Several years into their relationship Julia decides to write a book. She decides to write something kind of reminiscent of Temperance Brennan's style of writing, using her adventures in Interpol and ACME to make up a fictional story. This results in many sleepless nights typing away at her computer, Carmen curled up next to her with her head on Julia's shoulder, sleeping. Unlike most of the historical fiction books she has read, hers is historically accurate.
-The book is also laced with lots of gay. (Carmen, duh.)
-Carmen and Julia aren't big on pet names, the classic "Jules," being the one exception. However Julia will occasionally call Carmen "darling" in her typical English fashion.
-Carmen secretly loves it.
-When Carmen does or says something stupid that makes Julia laugh, she laughs and calls her a dork. It makes her feel like a silly, love-struck girl, but Carmen can be so adorable and foolish sometimes that she doesn't mind as much as she would if she was with anyone else.
-Julia writes in a delicate cursive script that she developed after poring over dozens of medieval documents for a University class project, her shorthand developed into what her eyes were seeing during that project and she's written that way ever since.
-Carmen loves it because she claims that "people seem to have lost the ability to have pretty handwriting."
-Sometimes Carmen will sneak up behind Julia (putting her stealth skills to good use), to put her hands over Julia's eyes and seductively whisper "guess who?" in Julia's ear just to get a reaction out of her.
-And she isn't disappointed by her blush or the shivers that run up and down Julia's spine every time.
-The first time Carmen goes to see her mother, she keeps Julia a secret because she didn't know what kind of person Carlotta was, and because they hadn't exactly defined their relationship. But once Carmen and Carlotta had established a strong mother-daughter bond, she brings Julia to meet her mother and Carlotta likes her instantly.
-Julia and Carmen balance each other's personalities out. Julia forces Carmen to slow down and in turn slows her impulsiveness, and Carmen encourages Julia to stop planning and live more in the moment.
-Carmen's favorite kind of date is when they visit an art museum. She loves the way Julia's eyes light up when she explains the different pieces and their unique traits to her. Most of the time is spent wandering around the museum with Julia spouting different facts about each exhibit, but Carmen doesn't mind in the least. It gives her the perfect excuse for gazing at her girlfriend in adoration for long periods of time.
-Julia's favorite kind of date is simply cuddling on the couch and reading a book together. More often than not the cuddle sessions end up with Carmen reading to her, lulling Julia to sleep with her voice.
-Carmen doesn't mind.
-The first time Carmen kissed her, had been on their first "date." It hadn't been the typical first date (all canon events taken into account), but Carmen had finally felt like it was safe enough for the both of them with VILE in jail, so she asked her out. They had gone to one of the many art museums in England, and had enjoyed simply being in the company of each other for an evening. At the end of the night, Carmen had walked Julia to her front door and kissed her softly in the twilight.
-The first time Julia had kissed her, Carmen had left to visit her mother on a month-long trip to Argentina without saying anything to Julia, shortly after their first date. She returned secretly, showing up on Julia's doorstep and upon seeing her, Julia yanked her into a searing kiss...and promptly punched her in the stomach for scaring the shit out of her.
-Julia is uncompromising when it comes to Carmen's health. She refuses to back down when Carmen gets slashed up by a VILE operative and as a result, Carmen sees the inside of more hospitals in more cities worldwide than she would like.
-But Julia scares her when she chews her out for being reckless (although she would never admit it), so she follows Julia's lead. She knows that deep down under all the bluster, Julia only wants her to stay alive.
-Carmen jokes on multiple occasions that she takes the most extensive worldwide tour of hospitals.
