I'm hungry, dumbass

Hinata was surprised to find that he wouldn't be eating lunch alone today. "Kageyama!" He called, to the boy sitting at the spot they typically eat. "Why aren't you in the sickroom?"

Kageyama held the bento box up Hinata had brought for him. "I'm hungry dumb-ass. Also, don't worry about it. The cold air helps a little bit, and I'm fairly certain it isn't contagious."

"I don't care about the contagious part, silly. School and volleyball aren't any fun when you're not around anyways. I'd rather be out sick anyways." He took his normal spot next to Kageyama with no hesitation and began to point out what was what in the bento he had brought him. His arm rested on Kageyama's for a brief moment. Warm.

Hinata's face heated up instantly. That was weird. This isn't any different than normal. Maybe I do feel a little weird about him being sick...

"Oi Hinata," Kageyama asked between a ginormous bite of warm lunch. "Can I ask you something?"

"Of course!" Hinata smiled. You shouldn't be weird around your friend. Everyone gets sick. You ass.

"I know we never talk about this kind of thing but... is there anyone... that you've thought I might like?"

"Well you like me don't you?"

Kageyama sighed. Hinata noticed his face was starting to wear that painful expression from this morning again. "Not like that. Like... you know?"

"Oh, like... that?" He raised an eyebrow at Kageyama, pondering the thought. Why is he even telling me this kind of thing? I mean... is he trying not to be obvious about whoever it is that he likes? Or does he just genuinely not know... He... would know. Right? "You know Kageyama, know that I think about it I'm not sure I've heard you talk about anyone that way. I know you've dated before but..."

"But...?"

"Well, no offense but you never really seemed interested in the girls you dated. I think... maybe you were a little mean to some of them too."

"How was I mean? It's not my fault having a girlfriend takes up too much energy than I have."

"Well sure, but you didn't have to say it to their faces."

Kageyama was silent.

"So..." Hinata asked, glancing slyly at him, "Is there someone you like?"

"Yes."

Hinata's eyebrows raised. "Who is the lucky lady?"

"I... don't know."

"Have- Are you trying to choose between TWO girls??" Hinata exclaimed, shoving playfully. "You dirty dog."

"God no, would you calm down." Kageyama shoved right back. "You spend too much time with Tanaka and Noya."

"You're just jealous." Hinata laughed.

"Maybe," Kageyama replied.

The laughing was cut short with something that was in between a sputter and a choke.

"They don't give you sets," Kageyama explained, smiling.

"Right," Hinata said. The bell rang, and they got up to throw away their trash. Kageyama was extra careful to recycle and nagged at Hinata for forgetting.

"By the way," Kageyama asked, before they parted ways, "Do you wanna spend the night tonight?"

"I'll have to ask my dad but sure."

Kageyama walked away feeling like an idiot. He wanted to explain everything to Hinata because he could tell Hinata was off-put by his behavior. He couldn't find any way to rationalize what he was saying without dropping a ginormous bomb on his best friend in the middle of the school day. Hey, I'm dying. Have a good fourth hour by the way.

He sighed. On top of it all, he was back in the sick room. The nurse told him earlier that he would have to attend his afternoon classes because he left for lunch, but the pain kept getting worse after his talk with Hinata. The nurse took one look at his face and opened the doors back up to him. She wanted to call his mom, but he told her that it wouldn't be any use.

"I'll be fine by Monday." He reassured her, and carefully laid down.

Stupid girl. He thought to his love. This is all your fault.
