9 Years Later

"Here is your schedule and locker number." The secretary says, handing me the papers.

"Thanks." I reply happily.

Nine years ago, I moved away. Leaving my house, friends, and most importantly, Riley. My best friend, my first love. But now that I'm back, I can get her back again.

We made a promise that we wouldn't date or love anyone until we can be together again. I was faithful to the promise. It was hard at times, but I knew that Riley was the one for me, and nothing could stand in the way of that. I just hoped that she kept the promise too.

I took a turn down the senior hallway, my eyes skimming the area for Riley. The only problem was that I didn't know what she looked like now.

"Hey, you new?" A guy with blond hair asks.

"Uh, yeah. I'm James." I reply, extending my hand out. He shakes it.

"I'm Eldon." He replies.

"Say, by any chance you can tell me where Riley Armstrong is?" I ask. He raises an eyebrow at me.

"Uh, she's over there." He replies. He points to a short brunette standing by the lockers chatting with a group of girls.

"Okay thanks." I reply before he walks off.

She was beautiful. Even more beautiful than when I left her. And now she was finally mine. I grinned at her before I ran over to her, crushing her into a hug, lifting her off her feet and spinning her around.

"I missed you so much!" I cry, finally putting her back on the ground. She pushes me away roughly and takes a step back.

"Who do you think you are?" She snaps, fixing her.

"Riles, it's me, James." I say, slightly offended that she didn't remember me.

"I don't know a James." She replies sharply.

It was defiantly her though. The same eyes, the unmistakable birthmarks on her arm. All her features. It was her! But why didn't she remember me?

"What's going on here?" A tall, muscular guy with brown windswept hair asks, wrapping an arm around Riley.

"Who is this guy?" He asks her.

"I don't know." Riley tells him.

"I'm James." I cut in.

"Well James, stay away from my girlfriend!" He snaps.

"Girlfriend?" I question.

"Yeah, girlfriend." Riley says in a mocking tone. She gazes up at the boy with a smile before they seal each other's lips together for several painful seconds before pulling away. Riley sends me a glare before they walk away together.
