First Love

Chapter 4

Charles couldn't sleep that night, thinking about Serena. "I can't do this." He whispered to himself. He was about to fall asleep, when his mind went crazy. Charles started hearing other people's thoughts, feeling other people's pain and his telekinesis took over him again. Charles was overwhelmed with anger. He put his hands on his head and gritted his teeth. He fell to the floor. It was too much for him. "MAKE IT STOP!!" Charles yelled. Raven had heard him and went to his room to try to comfort him. "It's okay Charles! It's alright. I'm here. Hush now." Raven took Charles into her arms and swayed him back and forth until he calmed down. "I'm sorry Raven. I'm so sorry." Charles said tears in his eyes. "It's alright Charles. It's not your fault."

"It is. You shouldn't be here, helping me, instead you should be resting and snuggling with Erik. This isn't fair. I wish I wasn't a mutant. What's the point in having these powers if I can't even control them. I think I'm going to call Hank and ask him if he can make like a formula to control my mutation." 

"You have got to stop beating yourself up over this. I'm going to be completely honest with you. You want society to accept you but you can't even accept yourself. You're afraid okay, I get it, but you've got your whole life in front of you, and you're going to waste it feeling bad for yourself? You know what I say Charles? Mutant and proud." Raven stood up and started walking out of Charles's bedroom. "Remember Charles, mutant and proud." Charles just sat there thinking about what Raven said. He finally fell asleep after a few hours.

The next morning, Charles woke up and suddenly started hearing a familiar voice. 'I don't know what to do. I really like him. Yesterday was amazing, but... I don't know. I've never had a boyfriend before. I've never even had a guy friend before. What if I mess it up? Ugh. This is so confusing.' It was Serena.
'Hi.' Charles said.

Serena was startled.
'Don't worry it's only me.'

"Oh, Charles. Hi."
'Uumm.. I couldn't help but overhear ...your thoughts I mean. I had a great time too.'

Serena blushed.
'Can I be honest with you?'

"Of course."
'I really like you too. I think I might even lo...' Charles paused.

"What were you going to say?"
'Want to get a cup of coffee?'

"Of course! Meet you in 20 minutes?"
'Okay. See you then.' Was Charles ready to confess his love for Serena? What is love?
