They woke up in a burning room. They had crashed.
Scholar was outside already. "THE FUTURE!!! WOW!!!! COME LOOK AT THIS!!!"
They were about to get up, when Sally said, "Hang on. Remember the bet."
They all narrowed their eyes at each other.
Charlie spoke. "We need someone to act on our side. You know, on nobodies' side."
Sally sighed. "I'll do it. I'm probably the second smartest one here."
They sighed. She had a point.
The three walked out. Scholar had a point. It was imposing. It was a vast, sprawling city. A rotting sign said, "Welcome to Townsville"
Scholar looked at his phone. "The year is 2037. As long as we stay away from Townsville, we are safe."
Sally looked at him in confusion. "Why?"
He sighed. "Do you remember that girl, Buttercup? She grows up to be one of the greatest supervillains the universe has ever seen. Total psychopath."
Sinn was confused. "The emo superhero girl?"
Scholar nodded. "People keep making fun of her. So she just goes nuts."
Then Rexy stopped. "I smell something."
A voice then said, "Told you you should have used deodorant, Ace."
"Shut up Arturo."
Scholar held up his hands. "FU-UCK."
They were promptly arrested.
Sally looked at him. "Nine seconds. Nice record."
Scholar sighed. "Shut up."
*****************
They were led through town.
Despite the pleasing appearance of the town, it was a dystopian wasteland. Villains roamed the streets. People and hobos dressed in rags and begged for food and water.
"Real Hunger Games kind of thing you got going on, huh?" Scholar said.
"Shut up."
Then a portal opened. A woman stepped out. She had a messy bob cut and a v shaped scar over her eye, along with a large burn scar over the side of her face. She had red scars over her forearms and hands, that made it look like she was wearing gloves. She wore a black bodysuit, with a black cape, and wore a green skirt with dark steel toed boots. Her hands were surrounded by green fire and energy that seemed to radiate hate.
She was smirking. "Scholar."
Scholar looked at her funny. "You aren't Buttercup."
She laughed. "She died. I took her place. Name's Joey."
Scholar's heart dropped into his stomach. "I defeated you."
She cackled. "No. Merely weakened. I am what came back from that horrible night. Remember."
Scholar was silent.
"Take them to the dungeons. I will speak with them later."
************
Scholar sat alone, chained up to the wall.
Rexy sat. "Is that what I'm like?"
Sally looked at her. "Yes. You are a big jerk."
Sinn laughed.
"Don't laugh, either. You take people's property without asking. You're just as bad."
The two looked down at each other.
"It's not our fault."
Sally and Scholar looked at them.
Rexy sighed. "I was the crown jewel of Jurassic World. The Tyrannosaurus Rex. Then they experimented on me. And turned me into a stupid human."
Sinn sighed. "I was always the runt. Stealing is just my way of life. I have no other way of surviving."
Scholar sighed. "I didn't think it would be this version of her."
They all looked at him.
He sighed. "There is a number of alternate universes. Well, there is one where this has happened in the present day. I met her."
"She took the name Joey. She killed her father, and her sister Bubbles. Because she has an ability. Unique only to her. She can drain life on a WMD level. Cause fires and explosions and death and destruction in a death ray. She has been through a lot of pain. And because of that pain, she can summon unlimited power and energy from it."
Scholar sighed. "I had to stop her. My regeneration energy can counteract her death ray energy."
"So I fought her. I thought she was defeated."
"Actually, I met the ruler of that dimension."
They turned. Joey was watching them.
Scholar was thinking. "We were in the Dark Dimension..."
She grinned. "Bingo. I met Dormammu. Struck up a deal. I would occasionally bring him slaves if he helped me get revenge on the one who scarred me."
Sally was confused. "You look fine."
Joey lowered her magical disguise. She had a jagged scar where her right eye should have been, over the V shaped one. Half of her hair was bald. Her costume was burnt. Burns were all over her right side. Her eyes glowed green.
Scholar narrowed his eyes. "I have only pity for you. You sacrificed your humanity for power."
She cackled and raised the illusion. "I care not for beauty. You wouldn't understand."
Scholar said, "It isn't too late. You can still go home."
She laughed. 'You think I want to?! I WILL WIPE TOWNSVILLE FROM EXISTENCE!!!! THEN EARTH!!!!!"
Scholar sighed. "Can't let you do that."
She laughed. "I have a time machine, Scholar. I copied the Doctor's. All I need is a pilot."
Scholar was about to interject when Sinn and Rexy interjected. "Um, we can fly. We know how."
Scholar was confused. Rexy looked at the Scholar. "Sorry. You knew we were jerks."
Rexy looked at Joey. "All we ask is you let them go."
She shrugged. "Fine."
She let them out. Rexy and Sinn walked with Joey to an elevator.
Scholar and Sally walked to the Oswin, which was just finished being repaired.
Scholar sighed. "I can't believe it."
Sally hissed, "I can. I'm turning their rooms into a drug room."
Then they heard a loud bang.
They looked and saw the entire city collapsing and a little white ship shooting out of the wreckage, coming to land right near them. Out of it came Rexy, who now had glasses, and Sinn, who had a sonic screwdriver. They were grinning.
Blue screamed, "WHAT THE HELL?!"
Sinn laughed, saying, "TOLD YOU I WAS A THIEF!!!"
Rexy laughed. "You really thought we would leave for that bitch?"
Scholar was confused. "You mean you conned her?"
Rexy laughed. "Pretty much. We just went in first and shut the door. Then we broke her portal gun and it collapsed the city."
Scholar laughed. "Well, I guess they lose the bet, huh?"
They all were stunned. "You mean you KNEW?!" Blue yelled.
Scholar laughed. "Of course I knew. Why wouldn't I? Nothing can fool me. Except these guys."
Scholar laughed. "So, you want your rooms?"
Sinn and Rexy looked at each other. "Actually, we're gonna do our own thing from now on."
Rexy nodded. "Yeah. I mean, we can fly this. Why not come home the long way round?"
Scholar smiled. "You be careful. There are monsters. And danger. And a whole lot of running. But most importantly, have fun."
They smiled and walked in together, taking off.
*******
The rubble of future Townsville.
A deceased Joey was laying on the ground. Then a cane slammed on the ground near her, reviving her. It belonged to the Archon Prime. "You failed. But you aren't good to me dead."
She growled. "He had help."
Archon Prime thought. "We need to pick off his companions."
*************
(Cutaway to great battle)
(Scholar and Joey are fighting Mortal Kombat style over lava.)
Scholar kicks and punches.
"VINES OF VERITAS!!!"
She dodged them.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
She punched him and picked him up by the neck, slamming him down again and again and again.
"I can't feel my legs." he thought.
"I can't feel anything."
She chuckled. "I killed your nerves. You're paralyzed."
She charged up her blast. "Three...two....one..."
Then Oswin came running in. She had not been fully converted, so her body had a little bit of power left in it. "EXTERMINATE!!!!"
She turned around and was blindsided by a punch to the face from Oswin. The two tumbled downwards into a spiral to the lava below.
"OSWIN!!! TAKE MY HAND!!!"
She held on for dear life as Joey plummeted to the lava patch below.
Scholar screamed, "I can't move very much!!! You'll have crawl up!!"
Oswin sighed. "I can't do it."
She placed something in his hand. "I will always be with you." And she let go.
Scholar moved his body with great effort. It was a flash drive with her consciousness on it.
He crawled to his Tardis, and plugged in the flashdrive. He was immediately taken to the med bay. Artificial nerves were put in place, allowing him to not feel pain.
But he does feel pain. On the inside.

(So yeah, the Scholar does not feel physical pain. But he feels more emotional pain than anyone.
