We're not Alone...

On Earth~

Nico Pov:

We begin walking into the thick forest. Trees surrounded us from every side. We're all walking in a sort of hiking line with Clarke leading us. I'm stopped when the boy with the goggles puts a hand around my shoulder and points over to Finn and Octavia. Finn had just placed a pretty purple flower in Octavia's hair. The boy tells me that his name is Jasper and his friend's name is Monty. Since they met on the Ark they've been best friends. "Now that my friend is game," Jasper says as a smug smile forms on his face. Monty looks at me and rolls his eyes at his friend's comment. I giggle at his expression. "That my friend is poison sumac" Monty states while grabbing two of the purple flowers from the bush. After hearing that statement Octavia instantly flings the flower from her hair. "Poisonous what?!?" she yells. I look at Monty worriedly and ask if she'll be ok. "Don't worry the flowers aren't poisonous. They're medicinal, calming, actually," he says as he pops one into his mouth. "Can I try one!" I ask excitingly getting close to Monty. His face turns a little red and he quickly flips his head to the side then mumbles a quick sure. I take one from the bush and place it in my mouth. As I savor the flavor I'm able to concur that poison sumac...tastes terrible. I swallow it down but I'm sure it's evident on my face that I disliked it. Finn and Monty burst out laughing which quickly draws attention to us three. I laugh along happy to have made new friends. Jasper tells me about how Monty's family was responsible for growing all are pharmaceuticals back on the Ark. I remember when I was little I would sneak into those greenhouses just to see all the plants. I'd get in trouble every time but that never stopped me from going back. Clarke looks back at the group agitated "Hey, guys, would you try to keep up?" she yells before she goes back to walking. I leave the boys and try to speed my way up to her when Finn grabs me by my shirt collar and pulls me back into his chest. "Come on, Clarke. How do you block all this out?" he says while referring to the forest. I can't help but agree with him. Earth is amazing! It's just like everything I read about and more. There are not as many buildings that I read about but instead, trees as far as the eye can see. I'm not complaining but the Ark needs to update their books. "Well, it's simple. I wonder, 'Why haven't we seen any animals?' Maybe it's because there are none. Maybe we've already been exposed to enough radiation to kill us. Sure is pretty, though. Come on." says Clarke as she continues leading us through this seemingly never-ending forest. "Someone should slip her some poison sumac," whispers Octavia earning a chuckle from Jasper. Dang, it. Looks like it's gonna be harder for Clarke to make friends than I thought. We continue walking and Finn hauls me back over to  Jasper and Monty. He sure loves to pull me around. He asks them how they got thrown into the skybox. "Sumac is not the only herb in the garden if you know what I mean." smugly says Monty. "Of course not we grew basil and parsley and..." I look up to see the others giving me unimpressed looks making me take the hint to stop talking. Were they not fans of parsley? "Niko they mean a more relaxing herb preferably used by...smoking it," Finn says nice and slow for me to understand but what does he mean by smoki-? My eyes go wide and I stop in my tracks the boys quickly notice. "Wait do you mean....weed?" I say in a whisper which makes all the guys bust out laughing. "Of course, we mean weed Nico and we would have gotten away with smoking it if someone hadn't forgotten to replace what we stole. " Says Jasper referring to his best friend. Monty defends his self saying he apologized thousands of times. I laugh at how childish they both act with each other. Their dynamic is so...refreshing compared to all the hateful words being thrown around in the skybox. It makes me remember that we are all still kids. Jasper then gets close to Octavia and asks her what she did to get arrested. "I was born" she replies as she walks off but not before sparing me a glance. This instantly makes everyone go silent. I decide to follow Octavia to talk to her and finally break this tension that we have. If we're gonna survive together I need to know what she thinks of me. "Um, Octavia," I say taping her shoulder. "What" She says clearly not wanting to talk, but I needed to do this now so I decided to just put it all out there. " You hate me don't you?" Octavia instantly turned to me confused. "What...?
"You hate me because I was given a life you never received" I scream most likely drawing attention from the others. "Nico..."
"And it's not fair and I know that so you have every right to be mad!" I wailed getting emotional.
"Nico"
I tune her out as I continue my rant. "I should have never been born then you wouldn't have had to feel this way"
"Nico!" Octavia finally screams guaranteeing were the center of the group's attention. "Nico...I don't hate you...I just...I'm just jealous" Octavia says whispering the last part. "Jealous?" I ask her as she looks away. "I wish I could have lived your life. Went to school, explored the ark had friends I couldn't do any of that. And now...I never will." she says looking down sadly. I instantly hug her which catches her off guard. "Uh...what are you...?"
"I'll be your friend," I say as I embrace her slightly shorter body. She doesn't respond instead she returns my hug and we stand there in comfortable silence. A silence that was soon interpreted by you guessed it, Finn. "Hey, since when did you guys get so close?" Finn asks pulling me out of the hug. "Since he took interest in me. Are you interested in me too?" Octavia asks Finn as she begins to inch closer to him. "Nope. However, I have something that might interest you little prince" Finn says to me as he begins to pull me over to the front of the line with Clarke. Octavia and the others follow close behind. We all make it to a clearing in the woods where Finn points out a deer eating some grass. I stare in awe at the beautiful creature. There weren't any animals on the Ark, so this is the first one I've ever seen! "No animals, huh?" says Finn as he looks at Clarke with a smug smirk. She doesn't even respond and instead looks at me excitingly. I in return give her a big smile. Its great to see that Earth's wildlife survived the radiation. Finn inches closer probably to get a better look but in the process steps on a twig creating a loud cracking noise that echoes throughout the forest. This instantly catches the attention of the deer which is now looking straight at us. We all gasp as we can see the deer more clearly. A side of the deer's face is morphed with another. The deer runs off leaving us all in shock. I guess saying that animals survived the radiation is a stretch.

After the deer sighting, we continue to walk through the forest in search of Mount Weather. "Hey, you know what I'd like to know? Why send us down today after ninety-seven years? What changed?" asks Finn as we all make our way over a small hill. " Who cares? I'm just glad they did. I woke up rotting in a cell, and now I'm spinning in a forest" remarks Octavia as she happily spins around a tree looking at Finn seductively. She's let down when Finn walks right past her and continues leading the group. "Maybe they found something on a satellite, you know, like an old weather satellite." guesses Monty. "It wasn't a satellite," remarks Clarke walking ahead of the group. "Care to tell us what is then," Octavia says not impressed by Clarke's vague answer. "The Ark is dying. At the current population level, there are roughly three months left of life support, maybe four now that we're gone." I say as I walk until I bump into someone. I look up to see the whole group (except Clarke) staring at me. "What?"
"What?! What do you mean by what? You just said the Ark was dying!" exclaimed Monty while the others mirrored the same shocked expression. Clarke continues walking not caring about the conversation since she already knows of the Ark's conditions. "So that was the secret they locked you up to keep, why they kept you in solitary, floated your old man?" Finn questioned walking over to Clarke. "Our father was the engineer who discovered the flaw. He thought the people had a right to know. The Council disagreed. Our mother disagreed. They were afraid it would cause a panic. We were gonna go public anyways, until Wells..." Clarke goes quiet drawing more attention to herself. "What, turned in your dad?" says Finn which I quickly shot down. "No, Wells wouldn't do that! It was anonymous." I looked over at Clarke and she just stared at me before continuing to talk. "Anyway, the guards showed up before we could. That's why today. That's why it was worth the risk. Even if we all die, at least they bought themselves more time." She says finishing the story. "They're gonna kill more people, aren't they?" asks a worried Monty looking at Clarke for answers. "Good. After what they did to me, I say, float them all," interjects Octavia walking ahead of everyone. "Oh come on you don't mean that," says Jasper running after her. I start to head over to Clarke to question her about Wells before Finn stops me. He grabs my hand and faces me towards him. "We have to warn the people on the Ark about this. While we still have the chance," he tells me looking into my eyes. I squeeze his hand reassuringly giving him a determined grin. "We're gonna warn them and we're gonna save them all. And this...this trip to earth just made that possible." I say not being able to contain my smile. "You sound just like Dad. Always fighting for the people." Clarke says barely above a whisper as she walks beside me. I watch sadly as she goes up ahead with the others. Clarke and Dad always had a deep relationship. They told each other everything. I was almost jealous of how close they were. When he was floated it broke something inside of her...something I wasn't sure would ever come back. But what we're doing now might finally give her the spark of hope she's been missing this past year. As I'm walking I'm alerted when I hear cheering from up ahead. I go to investigate when I feel my hand being jerked back. I look down remembering Finn and I are still holding hands. I look at him and motion to our hands but he doesn't make any intention of letting go. I just shrug it off and decide to walk over to the rest of the group with our hands still linked. When we arrive I bump into someone's back. I look up to notice it's Jasper and he seems to be staring at something. I look from over his shoulder to see Octavia...half-naked!?! "Oh, damn, I love Earth." Whispered an awestruck Jasper. We all watch and stare as Octavia heads to the edge of a small cliff. The water waiting on her below. "Octavia, what the hell are you doing?" screams Clarke, but it's too late. A big splash later and we all look down to see Octavia floating in the water. Nothing but her head was visible. "Octavia! We can't swim." Shouts a worried Monty. "I know, but we can stand. Hahaha!" She screams laughing at her discovery. "Wait. There's not supposed to be a river here." Clarke says examining the map. Before I could walk over to her the familiar tug on my hand reminded me of Finn's presence. "Well, obviously there is. So take off your damn clothes! You too little prince!" He exclaims. I look to Clarke for approval when Finn's chest suddenly floods my vision. I look up to meet his gaze. "You gotta stop letting Princess Clarke rule over your life. If you wanna have fun, have fun." He shoots me one of his signature grins as he begins to unbutton his pants. I begin to take off my shirt. Monty and Finn do the same. I get the article of clothing off my head and go to unbutton my pants when I look up and notice something in the water. It seems to be moving in the and it's heading straight towards Octavia! Jasper must have noticed it too because he suddenly yells out to Octavia to get out of the water. He gets Octavia's attention and halts everyone's undressing. We all begin to scream for Octavia to get out of the water but before she gets the chance the water monster chomps onto her on to her leg. Dragging her underneath the water until she pops back up screaming out in pain as she flails around in the begging for help. "What the hell is that?" asks Monty. "Who cares we have to help her!" screams a panicked Jasper.  "Wait. If we distract it, it might let her go. Help me." Clarke goes to collect rocks from the side of the cliff and we all follow suit throwing them into the water but to no avail. The splashes weren't loud enough to catch the monster's attention. We need something bigger. That's when the idea popped into my head. I go to the edge of the cliff looking down at the best spot to jump in. "What are you gonna do?" asks Monty noticing my movements. " I'm gonna jump in there and get the monster's attention on me. It should give you guys enough time to get Octavia out of the water." I say explaining the plan. Everyone agrees but Finn is not on board. "Are you trying to get eaten?!?" He screams grabbing my arm. "I'd rather try something than let her die!" I scream back at him jerking out of his grip. "No there's a better way" Finn mutters to himself going to find more rocks. I don't have time for this. Without saying a word, I jump into the water landing on my feet. Octavia wasn't wrong when she said we could stand. I begin to make noise splashing around and screaming. "Hey, fish face over here!" I scream to the monster who instantly locks eyes with me. It lets go of Octavia who is then dragged onto shore by Finn. My relief is cut short when I see the monster star making its way towards me. Up close I can see that it's some type of mutated giant eel. "It's heading right for you Nico! Get to shore!" my sister screams waving me over. I watch in terror as the eel swims toward me. I grab the biggest rock I can find in the water and once it gets close enough I smash its nose with the heavy object. It swims away in pain. I take this chance to swim over to the shore with the others. "It's coming back!" shouts Monty. I begin to swim even faster when I feel a sudden pain in my foot and I'm unable to move. I bring my head underwater and see my foot trapped in a little hole between some rocks. I begin thrashing in the water and desperately try to pull my leg out from the hole but it just won't budge. "I'm stuck!" I scream as I watch in horror as the eel gets closer. I close my eyes bracing for the impact when I hear a big splash. I open my eyes to see Finn. He's beating the eel with a rock while the others simultaneously throw rocks in different directions of the water. The monster now hurt and overstimulated swims off back to wherever it came from. "Finn my foot is stuck," I tell him. He's breathing heavily and his hair is soaking wet making me unable to see his eyes. Without a word, he goes beneath the water and I feel my foot unloosen from the rocks. I go to thank him when I feel myself being picked up from the water. Finn carries me back to shore where the others are waiting. Clarke runs over to me and gives me a big hug. It's kinda hard with me being in Finn's arms but she makes it work. The happiness is short-lived after she smacks me in the head. "Don't ever scare me like that again!" she scolds me making everyone laugh. I watch as Jasper takes pieces of his shirt off and wraps it around Octavia's wound. How charming. "Thank you. Thank you all" she says still shaken up from the attack. She still has her arms wrapped anxiously around Jasper too afraid to let go. You can see from Jaspers's smitten face that he's as happy as can be. "Note to self, next time, save the girl." We all shared a laugh at Monty's joke. Well all of us except Finn. He just stood silent holding me tight in his grip. Not enough to hurt me but protectively. He must still be mad at me for jumping. I'll make sure to apologize.

At this point were all exhausted and it's getting dark so we begin to walk the forest in search of a place to spend the night. Finn carried me the whole way even though I kept telling him I could walk just fine. Monty had looked at my foot and said it was just a light sprain that would be healed by morning. He's so smart! We stumbled upon a clearing in the woods and decided we'd sleep there for the night. As soon as Finn placed me up against a tree Clarke joined me. "You were pretty reckless back at the pond. You could have died" She told me leaning against my shoulder. "Yeah I know I was being stupid," I said looking down. "No. You weren't being stupid. Maybe impulsive but not stupid. I'm happy you did it. You saved a life today. You should feel proud." I looked at her glad to know I made her proud. "You know I was kinda scared too, but when I saw Octavia make it onto shore my fear just disappeared. Well, at least it did before the monster went after me. You know looking closely at it I think it was more of an eel than a snake-" I'm interrupted by the sound of light snores coming from a sleeping Clarke. "Pfft, good night sis" I whisper pecking her forehead before getting up from the tree. It's only then that I notice the beautiful sight in front of me. All of the trees and grass are glowing bright blue. I can't tell if it's from algae or radiation but I do know it's beautiful. I go to tell the others but they're all fast asleep. Choosing not to disturb them I decide to get a closer look. Clarke's not gonna believe this! I walk to a tree stump and sit done leaning up against it. I can see the shining lights coming from the vegetation on the wood. "Pretty cool, huh?" I turn to see Finn holding a big leaf full of water. He sits down next to me offering me a sip which I quickly take before giving the leaf back to him. "I'm surprised you went back to the pond," I tell him as I continue to look at the lights. "Figured it was worth losing a finger or two, but it shouldn't surprise you considering the stunt you pulled." He says taking a big gulp from the leaf. "And there it is!" I shout throwing my hands up. "There what is?" he asks. Oh, he knows exactly what he's doing! "You're still mad about me jumping in the pond?!?"
"Of course I am! You could have died!" Finn yells at me. "Well so could Octavia! You just wanted me to sit back and watch her get eaten by that thing!" I shout back. "Don't you care about her!?!"
"I care about you, Nico!" He yells at me shutting me up. "I care about you! Me, Clarke, that Wells guy! We all would have been heartbroken if something happened to you. There's nothing wrong with being a hero just...think before you jump into dangerous situations, ok?" I say a quiet ok and now we're just siting awkwardly. I decide to break the silence, "I'm sorry I worried you and I promise I won't purposely put myself in danger again, but you can't expect me not to help when I see my friends in trouble." Finn looks at me and finally shows off his signature smile. We sit there for a bit enjoying the glowing plants until Finn breaks the silence. "Ok, now that we're done fighting I gotta show you something" He stands up and offers me a hand "We weren't fighting! We were just... in disagreement" I say before taking his hand and letting him help me up. "It was a fight, little prince," He says leading me to another spot in the forest not too far from where we were. He points down to a print in the dirt. "A handprint!?" I exclaim getting down to get a closer look. " I think it looks more like a toe, but whatever it is, or rather whose ever it is is walking on two feet. My guess...Monkeys." I burst out laughing at his statement. "Hey, what's so funny? I'm serious" he says giving me a confused yet charming smile. "Pfft! Ha ha! I'm sorry but as much as I'd love to see a monkey my sister has read enough books about Earth to assure me that there are no bipedal animals left and certainly no monkeys." I explain with another laugh. Finn rolls his eyes playfully and sighs. "Once again I'm no match for Princess Clarke. Do you ever not believe what she says?" he asks picking up a glowing flower. I instantly stop laughing "I mean I don't believe that Wells would betray us....no matter how many times she tells me." I say sadly thinking back to when Clarke first accused Wells after our Dad was floated. She was so angry and he looked so... conflicted. Finn coughs snapping me out of my thoughts. Oh no, I ruined the mood! "But other than that she's always been right so nope I always believe her." He looks at me skeptically before reaching over and putting the flower he was still playing with behind my ear. "Did she ever mention anything about the glow-in-the-dark forest or a man-eating snake?" he asks. "Well no but..." I stutter out before he interrupts me. "Hah! Then she doesn't know everything. One point for Finn" he says proudly as he lays back in the grass putting his arms behind his head. "This isn't a competition Finn," I say before I'm yanked down next to him. "You're right but if it was I'd be winning," he says before closing his eyes and getting ready to sleep. I lightly laugh before looking up at the stars and thinking about the Ark. I hope everything is going well up there, especially for Mom. Soft snores bring my attention back to Finn. I poke his cheek and he makes a weird noise before peacefully sleeping once more. I laugh to myself thinking about our conversation. He really cares about my safety. He kind of reminds me of Wells in that aspect. He would always coddle me over the simplest scrape on my knee when we were kids. Speaking of Wells I hope he's ok. Maybe everyone stopped hating him and realized he's just like us. I feel my eyelids getting heavier as I snuggle closer to Finn and slowly drift off to sleep.

Wells Pov:

The others decided to take off their bracelets to make the Ark think they died. Of course, this "brilliant" idea was brought up by Bellamy. I chose to keep mine which didn't help them like me but I couldn't care less. I have Nico and Clarke and that's all that matters. I'm sleeping when I'm awakened by a hand being placed on my mouth. I'm about to scream when I realize it's Bellamy. He holds a gun up to his mouth signaling for me to stay quiet. He leads me away from camp to a more desolate area. "Alright, this should be far enough. I don't want to shoot you, Wells, hell I like you, but I do need the Ark to think you're dead." He says lazily waving around the gun. "Why? Why are you doing this?! And don't give me some crap about doing what you want to do" I say not taking my eyes off his weapon. " I have my reasons. I also have the gun. So I ask the questions and my question is why aren't you helping me? Your daf banished you, Wells, you, and your little friend Nico. Why are you still doing his bidding, following his rules?" he asks me "First off keep his name out of your mouth, and secondly, what makes you think you'll be able to convince Clarke let alone Nico? Did you forget who their mom is? They'll never do it" Bellamy laughs under his breath "Clarke will be difficult but I'm pretty convincing. As for Nico once he sees his goody two-shoes friend took his off he'll be easy to convince. He doesn't seem that bright-" I didn't let him finish before I punched him in the face making him lose his footing I was about to go in for another when some of Bellamy's lackeys come from behind me grabbing both my arms. The shorter one I think his name was Murphy came behind me and kicked the back of my legs making me kneel on the ground. Bellamy got up and walked over. "Whoa did I strike a nerve?" Bellamy says before spitting out some blood. I must have made him bite his tongue. Serves him right for talking bad about Niko. I laugh to myself before both of the guys behind me tighten their grip on my arms. Bellamy then kneels to my level as the guys hold me down. "I'm going to give you one more chance Wells. Take off that wristband, and you'll finally be liked around here." says Bellamy but I hear Murphy say "Yeah right" under his breath making his friends snicker. "No. Never. Not gonna happen. Is that clear enough for you?" I spit out not backing down. Bellamy looks at me unimpressed and stands up straight letting out a sigh. "Yeah, it is. I'm sorry it had to be this way." He looks at Murphy who, with the nod of his head, signals his friends to suddenly press me further down against a rock. "No! No! Get off me!" I begin to struggle as Murphy grabs my wrist positioning it flat against the rock. "No! Don't do this!" Bellamy raises his gun aiming it at my bracelet. "Hopefully Niko doesn't put up as much of a fight...on second thought hopefully he does" All I can hear is laughter as Bellamy shoots off my bracelet.

Niko POV:

Once morning came we went back to walking until we came to a river. Too scared to go in the water again we noticed a small cliff next to trees with long vines. Monty came up with the idea of us using one of the thicker vines to swing across the river. Like I said he's so smart! We all watch off from the side as Finn and Jasper head to the edge of the cliff. They're going back in forth about how to swing on the vine when Clarke tells them to hurry up. Finn is about to go before Jasper asks to go first. He looks scared but grabs onto the vine. "You can do it, Jasper!" I yell the others doing the same. He takes a deep breath before swinging across the river landing in a bush, but otherwise unharmed. We all celebrate him and then Finn calls out to me. "Come on little prince you next" I run up to him grabbing ahold of the vine. "Well someone's excited," Finn says chuckling. From across the river, Jasper holds up a sign that says Mount Weather on it. "Let's go! We did it! We made it to Mount Weather!" We all cheer again now happy to know we arrived at Mount Weather. I'm about to swing when I feel something go past me. My cheek suddenly stings. I touch my cheek and see blood on my fingers and before I can react I'm startled by the other's screams. I look at them and they're all looking across the river in horror. I look across to see Jasper up against a tree with what seems to be a spear pierced through his chest! "Jasper!" I scream about to swing across to him, but Finn won't let me as he drags me back to the others. "Everyone get down!" he screams as we all stumble to the ground looking around for the culprit. I look at Clarke and with a shakey voice say "We're not alone"
