Summary: Sergeant Bucky Barnes, a divorced and single father, comes by your diner often to order himself a cinnamon bun and a black coffee. Unknowingly to you, he's not just there for the food.

You were at the other end of the aisle taking orders from the few attendees tonight. You heard the bell above the door ring and paid no mind until Wanda waltzed passed you and murmured, "Your usual is here."

You smiled back at her, "Thanks, Wan. Let 'im know I'll be right there." You finished up scribbling the couple's order and moved to the counter, setting the order onto the board for the kitchen to see.

You then grabbed a cinnamon bun, popping it into the microwave, and poured a cup of coffee in the mean time. When the microwave beeped, you pulled out the warm and steamy treat, making your way to the back corner of the diner.

"Evening, Sarge."

The heavyset man with the buzz cut hair and enchanting blue eyes looked up at you with a smile, "How're you doing, sugar?"

You set the cinnamon bun and coffee in front of him, "Same old. Same old. How 'bout you? Any heroics today?"

He shrugged, a smirk on his face, "Not really any heroics. Pulled some teenagers over and caught some hooligan trying to steal from the bookstore. That's probably as close to heroics it'll get for me in our small town."

You chuckled, "I suppose you're right. Anything else I could get ya?"

"Maybe some of your time?" He asked hopefully.

You checked your watch with a smile, "I get off in twenty minutes. Wait for me?"

There was a twinkle in his eyes, "Always." He took a bite out of the cinnamon bun, some icing collect at the corner of his lips making you giggle. His smile grew at the sound.

"I'll be back soon." You took a napkin, wiping at the corners of his mouth, then leaving. As you walked away, the sergeant's eyes followed.

"Uncle Bucky!" The sergeant's eyes darted to the door to see a little blonde girl, Jamie, running towards his booth.

He slid out catching the girl, "Hey, munchkin! What're you doing here?"

"Daddy's taking me out to dinner." A few feet behind her was her dad, Steve Rogers, Bucky's captain and best friend.

He set his hands on his daughter's shoulders, "Here again?"

Bucky shrugged, "Can't get enough of their cinnamon buns."

Steve snorted, "You sure it's not someone else's buns you can't get enough of?"

Jamie giggled, "Daddy says you got a huge crush on Miss Y/N."

Bucky rolled his eyes, "Well, you're dasdy's got a big mouth, doesn't he?"

Jamie turned towards the counter and waved, "Hi Miss Y/N!"

You looked up with a smile and waved, "Hey Little Miss Jamie! You joinin' Sergeant Barnes tonight?"

Jamie looked up to her dad, "Are we joining Uncle Bucky?"

Steve smiled back at his daughter, "Not tonight, sweetheart. We'll sit a few booths away so we can spy on your uncle and hope he finally asks Miss Y/N out."

Bucky rolled his eyes, "C'mon, man."

Jamie giggled again, "Okay!" She then took her dad's hand and tugged him over to a table that gave them a good view of Bucky's booth.

As Steve followed his daughter, he mouthed, "Ask her!" to Bucky.

You approached Steve's table and Bucky watched as you interacted with his best friend and niece. He loved how sweet you were with them. Hell, you were sweet with everyone and he really liked that about you. It was one of the many amazing qualities you had that made him fall for you.

After you finished taking Steve and Jamie's orders as well as having a good conversation with them, you faced Bucky. You held up your hand and mouthed, "Five minutes."

And he nodded, mouthing back, "Take your time."

In the meantime, Bucky finished his cinnamon bun and coffee. He leaned his head back against the booth's bench and closed his eyes.

"Fallin' asleep on me, Sarge?" you asked as you sat on the other side of the table.

A grin appeared on his face before he opened his eyes, "'Course not, sugar. Just resting my eyes."

You pushed another cup of coffee his way, "Well, it's a good thing I got you more coffee."

Bucky happily accepted, "Don't get how you like to spend time with a guy like me, sugar?"

You tilted your head to the side, "Whaddaya mean?"

He shrugged, shyly staring down his new cup of coffee, "Divorced single father that barely has his life together. Not to mention I don't look the best," he gestures to his stomach.

You shrugged, "I think you look fine to me, Sarge. Sorry if it's cliche but it's what's on the inside that counts. Not the outside."

Bucky chuckled to himself, "You're just too sweet, sugar. Hell, you're sweeter than cinnamon sugar itself!"

"Then you're just as sweet, Sarge."

His smile faded and he bit his lip on anticipation, "I really wanna ask you somethin', but I'm scared."

You reached over, resting your hand on his, "You don't have to be."

He licked his lips and gave a deep breath, "Okay, but, uh, I fully understand if you don't wanna."

"Wanna what?"

"Go out with me? As in a date?" Bucky pulled back his hand and nervously rubbed the back of his neck, "God, I-you're-I'm just really sweet on ya, sugar. And our talks whenever I come by...I'm gonna be honest, it ain't just the cinnamon buns that keeps me coming back here."

You smiled softly at him, "I'd love to go on a date with you, Sarge."

He let out a breath of relief, "That's-That's a huge relief, sugar. And I'd appreciate it if you'd start calling me Bucky. I only like getting called Sarge for two reasons."

You looked at him confusedly, "Work and...?"

"Bed," Bucky said with a smirk and a wink making you chuckle.

"DID YOU ASK HER OUT YET, UNCLE BUCKY?!" Jamie's voiced alerted everyone in the diner, making them laugh and chuckle, including you two.

He nodded, "Yeah, munchkin! I did!"

"WHAT DID SHE SAY?!"

You faced Jamie, "Said yes, sweetheart," with smile.

"FINALLY!"
