Once the gun shot had rung throughout the precinct, almost everybody came running. Their footsteps stopped suddenly when they spotted Nines on his knees from the shock of actually doing something he never thought he had to do. Connor got through the crowd and ran over to his brother, wrapping his arms around him tightly.
Everything went silent to Nines. The voices around him were muffled and his vision was starting to blur. The noises around him were gradually changing into a high pitched ringing once his eyes caught sight of Gavin's unmoving body. A flash of deja vu filled behind his eyelids as he tried to block the sight from himself, and he felt his stomach roll over and curl into itself. He suddenly stood and shoved himself away from everyone before running off out of the building and away from prying eyes.
Connor had gotten up and yelled to Hank to get Gavin's body out of the precinct before going after Nines. He walked out and noticed Nines pacing around with his hands tugging his hair. His face was red and splotchy from all of the crying he was doing. Connor slowly approached him and cautiously reached for him.
"Want a hug?" The older of the two asked, looking at him with a gentle expression. Nines looked at him and quickly ran into his arms, clinging onto him tightly. Connor rubbed his back slightly, giving him the chance to calm down before asking anything else.
They spoke for a while. Connor was waiting until his brother was ready to go back inside and clean himself up. Nines mentioned how he was seeing things again. Connor needed no explanation, giving a small sigh and nodding slightly. He wanted to help his brother overcome his struggles that he was going through. He just didn't know how.
They walked back into the precinct and everything was cleaned up. Gavin's body was nowhere to be seen and his blue blood stains were wiped clean. Everyone went back to normal, but the sour smell of cleaning chemicals was burning into Nines' nose and he was beginning to tear up once again. Connor thought he was being emotional, but Nines managed to convince him that it was just how strong the bleach smelled.
Connor gave a nod and patted him on the back before getting back to work. "Just let me know if you need anything...or if you need someone to talk to..." he spoke as he started walking away. Nines gave him a small nod of acknowledgment once he sat down at his desk.
His attention went toward his work for the rest of the day. He didn't think about what had happened that morning until he was leaving the building. He was about to tell Gavin to follow him, but he stopped himself before he could allow any words out of his mouth. He shook his head and collected his things before clocking out and walking out the door.
When he got to his apartment, he unlocked the door and was greeted by a chatty Mocha. The cat was obviously looking for his tin-headed friend, making Nines all the more heart broken. He sighed and tossed his keys into the little key tray he had by the door. He wandered to his kitchen to make himself a microwave dinner before he headed to bed.
Mocha hopped up onto the counter as he called for Gavin a few more times. Nines sighed again and picked up the cat to cradle him close.
"He's not here, Buddy..." he mumbles, feeling guilt fill his chest. "He probably won't be back for a while..." he added, grabbing his food to try and relax in front of the television for a little while. He hoped it would help get his mind off of things again like work had earlier.
By the time he was ready for bed, the nightmares that he continued to see every time he closed his eyes kept haunting him. He had managed to get them away a little while ago, but then the incident with Gavin occurred and brought them right back. He laid in silence as he tried to get some sleep. His cat had come in to join him and comfort him.
He flicked off his light and managed to fall asleep in a few minutes.
A/N: HOLY CRAP- I didn't really mean to make it this short, but hey, it might actually be longer. I wanted to release this on the anniversary of the game's release and Bryan Dechart had reminded me indirectly by being Connor and blatantly saying it for the camera. I had forgotten until now to finish it so hopefully it is enjoyable enough for you to read it. And I AM SO SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG WAIT TO FILL IN THAT CLIFFHANGER- I loved all of your reactions though, so I might do another one, maybe not, who knows? Anyway I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THOS DISASTER CALLED A CHAPTER😂😂
Ps: The song in this chapter is called 'Roses are Red (Violets are Blue)' by Jon Caryl
