A few weeks after meeting Nines' girlfriend, Gavin's world seemed to be falling apart. The case wasn't progressing and none of the other officers were willing to help. He looked to Nines and noticed that he looked stressed. The droid watched the detective rub his temples and sigh heavily.
"Are you alright, Detective?" he asked him, tilting his head slightly.
Nines gave him a look. "Does it look like I'm okay?" he responded with a question.
The reaction Gavin received made him squirm a bit in his seat. He knew that dealing with a case that just turned up with deadends was tough, that what his protocol said. His eyes caught sight of Nines turning his attention to the information they already had. Once the attention was off of him, he relaxed a little bit.
It was obvious who had done it, but it was hard to get it out of him, and that was putting a weight on the both of their shoulders. They were back at square one it felt like. Jhon wasn't giving them any answers that they needed to close the case, write the report, and be done with it. It was causing the precinct to feel cold and suffocating. Nines got up quickly and stormed out of the building, leaving a very confused Gavin behind.
"Detective...?" He said softly before getting up and following him close behind to the back of the building.
When they had gotten outside into the cool air, Nines stormed off to the dumpsters. He groaned out in annoyance and looked for something to hit. He noticed the wall and threw a hard punch at the wall. Gavin was at his side in an instant, stopping him from attacking the brick again.
"Sir, what has gotten into you?!" the android exclaimed, holding back the detective from going on a rampage.
"I'll kill her! I'll kill that bitch!" Nines screamed as he tried to push Gavin off of him. Gavin wondered who he was talking about, slowly hoping who he thought it was. He didn't want to obtain false hope, though. "Wait, what? Who?" he asked, hiding the expression that was trying to surface. He watched as Nines pried himself out of his arms. Nines looked at him and huffed heavily as he regained his composure. He gave a heavy sigh.
"Captain Stern has commanded me to release the suspect." he said flatly. "She says it's because we aren't getting anything out of him and we are allowed to hold suspects for so long."
Nines watched Gavin's face transform from confusion to just plain annoyance. "Really...?" he gave a similar sigh and turned away from the detective with a hand running through his hair. "You've got to be fucking kidding me..." he whispered. His feet moved him away from Nines' and the wall toward the front doors again.
The human watched him in confusion. "Where are you going, Tinman?"
Gavin didn't respond for a minute, making Nines have his turn to worry. That worry turned into fear when Gavin finally spoke, eyes looking at Nines straight on. "I'm breaking protocol." After he said those words, he made his way in.
Nines, somehow understanding what Gavin meant, ran after him to stop him, but the android was too fast. Once he turned the corner to the holding cells, Gavin was already pulling Jhon harshly toward the interviewing room. Nines didn't know what to do, so he did the only thing he could do. Without thinking, he pulled out his gun from his holster and aimed it at Gavin.
Then, he fired.
(Cliffhangers I personally hate when I'm reading something, but uhhh...plot convenience? Yes, I am well aware that I could've dragged this out a bit longer, but writers block is biting me in the ass. I had started writing this chapter AFTER publishing chapter six with the idea that I was going to release it the 30th of October. Obviously, that didn't happen. So I guess this is a gift for you in hopes that we start 2021 off right. 2020 was a piece of shit for me tbh. AAAAANYWAYYYY I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Expect the next one in April because there are no 30s in February...HA, but if I forget...please don't get mad...I'll most likely be super busy with school...or I might just put this on the shelf again since I'm falling out of the fandom once again...who knows...
also the photo? Nice.)
