Almost three weeks had passed since the apocalypse broke out, as Jade, Cain and his family had called it. The house had been renovated to protect themselves from the monsters, the windows being boarded and the entrances being reinforced. Mr. Anderson and Cain went on runs for groceries at least once a week for necessary supplies as well as food, considering the person that was supposed to deliver them had mysteriously been killed.

Cain had become weary of nights, protecting Jade. However, this had resulted in him not getting proper sleep while Jade lay next to him, cuddling against his chest. As they lay there, Jade began to hold onto him tighter. He looked down at her as she quickly opened her eyes, a scared look lay on her face and panic overtaking her.

"What's wrong babe?" Cain asked, pulling her closer.
"Nightmare." She whispered, barely able to let get the word out.
"It's okay Jade. I'm right here." Cain said.
Cain continued to rub her head softly to help her relax. The sound of Cain's heartbeat seemed to also do the trick, as, within minutes she was able to fall back asleep.

When Jade woke up again, Cain was asleep, one arm still around her. She wanted desperately to kiss him awake but knew that he needed the rest. Just then, as though he had read her thoughts, Cain slowly opened his eyes, stretching his body and rubbing his eyes, his back arching. He looked down at Jade.
"Mornin', Sunshine." He said, kissing the top of her head.
"Morning!" She responded. "Sleep well?"
"Better than usual. Any other nightmares?" He asked.
"No... just the one."
"What about?"
"Us... and..." she put and hand to her stomach.
Cain frowned. "Baby?" He asked.
Jade nodded, smiling almost sadly. "The baby wasn't... born yet..."
"Did the baby not make it?"
Jade nodded, indicating that he was right. Cain kissed her forehead, all the way down to her lips. "That's not gonna happen." He whispered. He shifted his body, putting himself on top of her. He gently kissed her and Jade wrapped her arms around him. He leaned down, their bodies pressing against each other as Cain wrapped his arms around her.

The two of them made love for several minutes before Cain finally decided it was time to get dressed. He had felt hot at night despite the cold weather. He put on a thin long sleeved white button up and black jeans. Jade put on a red sweater, also with black jeans.

As they walked downstairs, Cain could smell the coffee being brewed by his brothers.
"Coffee?" He asked, turning to Jade.
"Sure!" She responded.

When they got downstairs, Jade noticed the coffee scent.
"Really?" Cain asked when she acknowledged it. "I smelled it from upstairs."
"Well you must have a better nose than me." Jade replied.
"You gotta get yours replaced." Cain said, both of them giggling.
Jade sat down as Cain made coffee and bagels for the two of them.

"Do we need to do a run for anything?" Cain asked as he sat down with food. He looked up at Trevor who was standing against the wall, texting someone.
"Why are you looking at me?" He asked.
"Cause I didn't know if you needed cigarettes." Cain replied.
"No... I think I'm gonna try and quit after this pack." Trevor said.
"Wow... good for you man." Cain said. He turned to Jade. "You need anything babe?"
"Anxiety meds." She said.
"Anything else?"
Jade gave him a certain look and Cain acknowledged it with a nod. Both of them took a bite of their bagels.
"Secret code?" Trevor asked.
"Something like that." Cain said.

Mr. Anderson and Cain had gotten backpacks ready to get the necessary supplies and anything else they found useful. Cain looked to Jade with wanting eyes, as though he did not want to leave out of fear of the unknown. They kissed each other before Cain walked out of the house and put his mask on.
