*Three hours later*

The blonde doctor walked up to Maya and Jackson.
Maya stood up quickly, "How is she?"
"She's doing great. She needed surgery to control the internal bleeding from the injury caused by the book shelf. She did inhale a significant amount of smoke, but it looks like she's going to be fine."

Maya quickly hugged her tight.

"Thank you Meredith." Jackson told her.
"Yes thank you. I'm sorry I'm hugging you and I don't even know you, but I'm just so damn happy." Maya said through tears.

"That's alright," Meredith said laughing. "Do you two want to go see her?"

"Yes please."
"You go. I'll be up in a little bit. I'm still on call." Jackson said.

Meredith led her to your room, where you laid staring at the TV.

"Oh my God, baby." Maya rushed over to you, and hugged you gently.
"Hey beautiful." You said with a wince.
"Are you okay? How are you feeling?" Maya said still hugging you.
"Maya, I'm okay. But I need you to stop hugging me please, you're right on my incision."
"Shit, sorry."
"Is the kid alright?" You asked.
"Yes, he's perfectly fine. A little shaken up, but he's fine." Maya said trying to hide her tears.

"Hey, hey. Don't cry. I'm alright." You put a hand on her face.
"I could've lost you." She said, letting the tears run down her face.
"But you didn't. This kind of stuff comes with the job and you know it. I'm okay."

"I love you Y/N. And I know I shouldn't be saying this yet, but I love you. That's all I could think about when I saw you under the bookshelf. I love you."
You gave her a huge smile, "I love you too."

She leaned over, and gave you a gentle kiss.

You two heard a man clear his throat from the doorway.
Maya turned and saw Chief Dixon standing in the doorway.
"Bishop. A word, please." He said.
"I'll be right back." She whispered to you.

They walked off, but you could hear their conversation.
"You know the rules Bishop." He said.
"I've looked over the rules, and the rules do not state anything about couples working together as long as they were a couple before employment at SFD." Maya argued.
"You're pushing it Bishop. This is why we don't put women in charge. Feelings get in the way."

"Sir with all due respect, you didn't have any issue with Herrera and Sullivan's relationship. I would hate for this conversation to get to the higher ups at HR, because I feel like you're targeting me for my gender and my sexual orientation."
There was a moment of silence.
"Just keep it professional at work."

He walked by your room, "I'm glad you're alright Y/L/N. Good work." He said gruffly.

Maya walked back into the room, her eyebrows furrowed.

"Damn baby. You really told him off." You said smiling.
"He pisses me off. Homophobic, piece of shit." She muttered.
"Is the rest of the team okay?" You asked.

"Yes. They got the fire put out, and our shifts ended. Thank God." She groaned squeezing the bridge of her nose.

"Thank you for being here with me. I love you." You said kissing her hand.
"And I love you."

Andy and Vic came running in a few minutes later.
"Holy shit Y/L/N, are you okay?" Vic asked.

"Yes, I'm okay. Just a small surgery, and smoke inhalation. I should be able to go home tomorrow. But I have to have someone stay with me." You said.
"I'll do it." Maya told you.
"You're Captain, I can't ask you to do that."
"Andy will take over as Captain until you get better. She's next in line anyway. How long do you have to be off?"
"Six weeks." You said rolling your eyes.

Maya turned to Andy, "Looks like you're gonna be Captain for six weeks."

The rest of the crew came rushing in, breathless.
"You okay?" Ben asked.
"I'm okay. Guys you really didn't have to come up here. This kind of stuff happens every day."

"Yeah but not to one of our own. We're a family Y/L/N, and we got your back." Travis said.

A short woman came walking in. "Benjamin? Why did you page me? Are you alright?"

"Miranda, this is Y/N. Y/N, this is my wife Miranda Bailey. Will you make sure someone is constantly checking on her? She's one of ours." He told her.
"Of course. It's nice to meet you Y/N. Ben has told me a lot about you."
"It's nice to meet you too Doctor Bailey." You said with a small smile.

Maya ushered everyone out, and ordered them to go home.

"You need to go home too Maya." You said.
"No, I'm staying here tonight." She said, folding out the chair to lay back.

"Maya..."
"Hey, we said 'I love you'. There's nothing you can do to get rid of me now baby girl." She said with a smile.
"I love you Maya Bishop."
"I love you Y/N Y/L/N."
