THIRD PERSON POV
Moonbyul followed Yongsun after she gave knowing glances with her companions at the table. She screamed her name but Yongsun was running unimaginably fast in her high heels. Moonbyul didn’t mind that people are giving them weird stares and glances. The only thing that’s in her mind was to catch up to Yongsun…especially that the woman was frenziedly crossing the road that she didn’t bother looking at the stoplight switching to red.
Yongsun’s eyes are nowhere ahead of her. She just wanted to stop the ringing in her head and the pain in her heart. That is why she didn’t notice the whirring car approaching her.
It had happened so fast.
“Are you okay?! Are you hurt?!” Moonbyul’s hands hold Yongsun’s face as she worriedly questions the girl’s condition.
She managed to pull Yongsun out of the way before the car could hit her causing Moonbyul to fell backward with her girlfriend falling over her.
Yongsun was stunned. She saw how fast the car drove past them. It happened in a flash. Yet she was unharmed, Moonbyul’s body under her and frantically scanning her to see if she was injured. She could see the worry, the fear, the care, and undeniably, the love swirl in those eyes she loves so much.
Moonbyul was checking her for injuries when in fact she was the one who is wounded as her elbow and arms took the impact when they fell on the side of the road.
Still, Yongsun kept quiet because she’d be lying if she says she is fine. Physically yes, but other aspects of her are definitely not. Knowing that your girlfriend is going away is painful plus the fact that she had known this coming from other people not from Moonbyul’s mouth made it more too much to bear.
The reason why Moonbyul hid it from her keeps bugging her. Should there be problems between or among them, Moonbyul should have told her since she is her girlfriend. Right?
“Let’s go home. Okay?” Moonbyul wiped the tears in Yong’s face. She searched for her eyes as they look at each other with mixed emotions.
Despite the confusion, Yongsun nods. They have a lot to talk about. A lot.
As if on cue, once the two had stood up, Xiumin’s car stopped beside them.
“Hop in. I’ll take you home.”
The two sat at the back seat together with Yong’s sleepover bag and the gifts Byul had left at the restaurant piled in between them.
It was thoughtful that Xiumin brought those with him when he fetched them. When they finally made it to Moonbyul’s apartment and her cousin had left, the atmosphere became even more awkward.
“You shower here; I’ll take the guest’s bathroom.” Moonbyul said before leaving Yongsun in her room. She took her time, thinking how she’d break the situation up to her girlfriend. Moonbyul felt helpless but she decided to stick with the truth, even if it’ll hurt Yongsun. It is the rightful thing to do.
When she was done, she went back to her room only to see Yongsun lying on the bed, her back on her as she faced the wall. The woman was sobbing with the way her shoulders were heaving and the little sounds she creates trying to subdue her cries.
“Yong…” She gently approaches the bed and laid on her side.
“…I’m sorry. I was going to tell you but timing wasn’t on my side.”
The sobs became more prominent but Yongsun didn’t say anything.
“My mom. She came the day after our outing. She threatened me of messing with you and Wheein. After that, I asked Xiumin to track the company’s transactions and connections to you and Wheein. They’ve been cutting and robbing you of investors. I mean, your parent’s business and well, Wheein’s parents work with my parents so…” Moonbyul trailed off.
Still, Yongsun didn’t say a word and it’s making Moonbyul frustrated. She’s slowly losing hope, seeing that Yongsun is not talking to her. She takes it as a sign that the woman is giving up on her already.
“Eventually she’ll do worse than that and I can’t stand – seeing you hurt. I love you…” By this time Moonbyul is crying too. Her emotions pouring out. “… so please, say something…get mad at me, hit me, lash out at me, curse me, I don’t care.”
All she wanted was to hear Yongsun’s voice. She was desperate for her but she can’t touch her. Not when she doesn’t know if Yongsun is mad at her or what.
Shortly, Yongsun turned. Her eyes looked like eternal sources of waterfalls. They were sore and puffed. Her fists then fiercely hit Moonbyul in the chest, repeatedly. Moonbyul lets her.
“I HATE THIS! I HATE IT! WHY??! WHYY??!!!WHY NOW???!!!” After shouting, she bawled full on in Moonbyul’s chest, her hits becoming less forceful and then it stops.
Letting out some from her system, Yongsun was now tightly wrapped in Moonbyul’s arm. Her cries continue.
“Is there – really no room for negotiations?” She asked in between sobs.
“I’m afraid not.”
Yongsun buried her head deeper in Moonbyul’s chest when she heard her answer. Moonbyul has her hands running on Yong's hair and back, soothing the older.
“You’re leaving me just like Eric.” Yongsun's voice was just a tad louder than a whisper.
“No baby. I might leave you but I’ll be leaving with a promise that I’ll be back.”
“For how long?” The older looked up to see her lover’s face, her hands clutching at Byul's clothes.
“Days, months, years. I don’t know. But, I promise, I’ll find my way back to you so…will you wait for me?” Then, Moonbyul reached out at her pocket. She took out a small box and opened it in front of Yongsun.
Yongsun stares in surprise at Moonbyul. In Moonbyul’s hand there are two beautiful rings cradled in the velvet box, perfectly hugging each other. The sun and moon.
“Will you wait for me, Kim Yongsun?”
When Yongsun said it was history repeating itself but with Moonbyul this time, she was kind of right and also wrong. Eric left. Moonbyul will eventually leave, that is undebatable. Eric left with a goodbye. With Moonbyul it was different this time because she’s leaving with a promise. Something Yongsun could hold on to. Something Yongsun could look forward to.
Undeniably, Yongsun loves Moonbyul. The amount of tears she shed for the woman proved how much she doesn’t want losing her. Still, Moonbyul’s questions hold a lot to be expected. The patience she had to stretch for waiting. The loneliness she had to endure for a while. The yearning that will grow every passing day she’s not with her. Yongsun internally asks herself if it will be all worth it.
After some time, when Moonbyul was starting to get worried over her silence, Yongsun put both her hands on either side of Byul’s face, closed her eyes, and she kissed her ever so deeply. It was as if she’s pouring all of her feelings in that kiss.
Loving and waiting for Moonbyul would be uncertain but she’d rather risk it than play safe.
The moment Moonbyul felt her girlfriend’s lips on her, it made her took a sharp intake of breath. She was surprised but elated. The depth of their kiss gave her a sign of Yongsun’s feelings for her. Yongsun loves her as much. She returned the kiss with the same passion, wanting for the moment to last.
When they ended the kiss, they were breathless, their foreheads were still touching. Yongsun speaks as her mouth hovers over Moonbyul’s.
“Yes, Moon Byul Yi. The answer is yes.”
