Hello Vani Hearts ❤
How are all of you doing? I have some back with yet another short story. Writing Vani has proven to be a great coping mechanism for me during this pandemic. I am working on the next part of 'Ishq Bulava' now. Drop a message or comment if you guys want to read any specific scene there or in general. Coming to this story, every one is human. Bani lives alone in her farmhouse on the outskirts of Mumbai and has a business of organic vegetables. Meera is her best friend. She is praying to God that she meets the love of her life and he crashes into her life, quiet literally. So let's see how the story unravels. I really hope you enjoy the read. Feedback is appreciated.

PART ONE

Unable to fall asleep, Bani tossed and turned in her bed. Her phone pinged. It was a text from her best friend Meera. ‘Bani your horoscope said that you are going to meet the love of your life today! Have you met him by any chance?’ Bani chuckled looking at the message. “How can how can I meet him when the rain is hitting the ground so unforgivingly? ‘Not that Bani believed in horoscopes as much as Meera did but the thought of meeting someone and falling in love with them always made her heart flutter.

“Dear God, wherever he is, please make sure he is safe.” Bani closed her eyes and offered a silent prayer. It’s true that she did not know who she was going to fall for but she was praying for a stranger because the weather was terrible since the last few days. Most of the low lying areas had experienced flash flooding in the wake of the dismal conditions caused by the remains of the recent cyclone which had hit Mumbai last week. She thought that the storms were over as the last two days had been close to normal. The sun had begun to dry out the soggy patches of the earth. To her disappointment, it started raining again a few hours ago. ‘I know you feel the need of him at such trying times but whenever you meet him, trust me, he will fill your heart with so much love. Your life will change in the most beautiful way possible’ came another message from Meera. Bani sighed with hope in her heart.

A sudden strike of lightning lit her darkened bedroom and the roaring thunderclap that accompanied shook her to the core. Anxiety kicked in her system. She hated living alone in a farm house at such times; she got out of bed and stood by the window to look at the bright orange light of the approaching dawn highlight the three huge greenhouses her parents had left her with. They were in a desperate need of repair and she was hoping that the recent turn of events would not do any more damage to them as well as the vegetables growing in it. It was only a matter of few weeks until she can harvest her hard work and the profits she would earn should get her through the next six months.

The sound of heavy rain on the roof over her head seemed overlaid with a loud humming. Bani took her umbrella and a torch to step out in the rain. Immediate help had to be called if there was the slightest problem. He took a look at the electrical lines on the poles from a safe distance. Thankfully, everything was okay. The transformers did not glow or spark at all. The dim lights of the greenhouse were also working. She looked up in the sky at another bolt of lightning when a metallic blue BMW came out of nowhere and hit into the panels of one of her greenhouse. “No, no, no, no, no…” Bani screamed and ran towards the car which had tried to stop but was rammed in between two greenhouses now.

It was dark, even with the sun trying to break through the clouds. She stopped running to watch in abject horror as the bonnet of the car caught  flames. She could see the man driving the car fighting the steering wheel. Forget profit, she could see her hopes of making a reasonable income shatter as the car sped a little further and ruined a lot of her vegetables. She screamed for help and ran forward again. Trying not to look at the damaged equipment and plants, Bani reached the now still car which could blow up any minute. She tried to open the door but failed. She had to do something. She had to get the driver out otherwise he can surely die.
