| DAISY|

"Hold on - what?" Ella shrieks through the phone, "and you don't remember anything else?"

"Nope," I say, "but whoever dropped me back home left a daisy on my nightstand."

Ella goes silent for a moment while my words sink in. "A daisy?"

I nod, knowing she can't see me. Daisy's have always been my favourite flower ever since I was young, mainly because of my name, it can't be a coincidence that whoever saved me last night left one.

"Are you sure it wasn't there before?"

"Positive," I reply, my voice carried with confidence, "I always leave my nightstand empty."

There's another wave of silence from Ella's end of the phone as she ponders my words, deciding what to do with the news.

"Ella, how did he even know where I live?" I finally say, "let alone know my name." She doesn't respond immediately and I wonder for a second if she even heard me.

"Let's hope it was just a neighbour."

I give her a weak smile and say one final goodbye before hanging up, my eyes drifting back over to the daisy. Ella always knows how to ease my nerves, that's why we're such good friends. It must've just been a neighbour.

I decide to ignore the negative thoughts swirling inside my head and make my way down to the kitchen for some breakfast. My parents are out at work so I have the house to myself.

I grab some milk from the fridge and turn towards the island to start making myself a bowl of cereal. I draw short. Ice flows into my veins and down my spine as my lungs suddenly constrict.

Bottles upon bottles of my parents' whiskey and prosecco scatter the kitchen island; every single one of them empty. Pieces of broken glass crunch under my slippers as I walk closer to the chaos.

That's when the air gets completely knocked out of my lungs.

There it is, hidden within the mess, squashed under a broken bottle of champagne: a second daisy.

I almost stop breathing.

Someone was definitely here last night, and something's telling me he's not just a neighbour.

"Fuck," I whisper.

This is bad. This is very bad.

I was frozen in place for a few minutes, my mind desperately trying to find a solution to this mess. I didn't want to ring Ella again and worry her more, and I wasn't sure if Natalia had been informed about what's happening. One thing I knew for sure was that I have to get this mess cleaned up before my parents blame me.

So that's exactly what I did.

"I think you're all out of options," Natalia frowns after an unsuccessful attempt at job hunting. "As much as I hate to say it, Notturno Vio's the only decent place that's hiring."

I sigh as the three of us collapse onto my sofa, debating who should ring up the club first. I still hadn't told either of them about the smashed glass in my kitchen.

"We can type the number into my phone if you want," Ella offers, holding out her phone.

After staring at it for a while I agree and copy in the number, hitting the call button. "Hello?"

"Put it on speaker," Natalia whispers and the girls both lean in.

"Welcome to Notturno Vio, what can we do for you?"

I pause for a second before answering, nerves rattling my body as I try to steady my voice.

"Um, we heard you we're hiring," I say hesitantly, "I'd like a job I think."

"You think?" The woman chuckled, "what's your name, darling?"

"Daisy," I spoke, "Daisy Matthews."

"I can arrange a meeting for you tomorrow morning at six," she responds and I nod, even though she can't see me.

"That's early," I hear Natalia mutter.

"Six works."

"Perfect, I've booked you in now," the woman says, "is that everything?"

"Yes, thank you," I answer, wanting to finish the conversation, "um,... I'll see you then."

"Thank you for calling."

After hanging up, I hand the phone back to Ella, surprised at the sudden weight lifted off my shoulders. "No going back now."

"You'll do great," Ella smiles, tucking her phone back into her pocket, "just be yourself and show them what you can do."

"You're stunning anyway, they're not gonna say no," Natalia winks.

Despite their encouraging words I couldn't help but feel like something was going to go wrong, very wrong. I convinced myself it was just the nerves talking and that I'd be fine.

But after Natalia and Ella left, my mind kept wandering back to the daisies, and I couldn't help but think about whoever left them and how he knew my name.

And I wondered if maybe he'd be back.
