With Jane outside my room, I get up to dress. The broken leg, now healing in a cast thanks to some fancy doctor, makes it a little hard to hobble over to the closet, but I manage. Figuring out what to wear with the cast is hard. I'm not a shorts kind of guy and long pants make it hard so I instead go for baggy black sweatpants. If Chad was here, he'd suggest a skirt like the idiot he is. It's strange that he isn't here yet. He's usually the first person I see in the morning. Instead, I have Jane with a gun, telling me about some surprise.
Is she going to kill me? Not that I care, but why does she have to make a show of it if that's the case?
No.
No, I'm done thinking like that. I'm not dying. Jane wouldn't kill me in any way. She's had every opportunity to, but instead, she does exactly as I ask. No, even more. I ask for a room and she not only provides me with one of the best guest bedrooms, but she buys me new clothes and makes sure I'm attended at all times. As bizarre as it is, she clearly likes me for some reason and that's something I can work with.
I get dressed and brush my teeth before I head outside, handing Jane a small smile which she returns with a grin.
"Follow me," she says and we make our way down the hallway. She glances back, notices I'm a little slow with my broken leg and then immediately she slows down before offering her arm for me. I accept.
"It's rather quiet," I comment, "Where is everyone?"
"They'll be here soon," Jane says.
We get downstairs and as we reach the foyer, my nose knows what's coming before my eyes do. I clench my stomach at the sharp familiar tang of blood and my eyes take in the sight of corpses at the bottom of the steps.
"Oh, uh, I forgot that was there," Jane says while trying to get me to the front door.
I pull my arm away from her and a scowl replaces my expression. I've been locked up so long, I forgot what a maniac she is.
"You killed them," I say.
Jane looks at me with worried brows. "Uh, well yes, but-"
"You can't just kill everyone you disagree with, Jane," I tell her. I'm pushing my luck, but this will be good to see what I stand on with this crazy girl. "Is that all you can do?" I press, "Kill people?"
