Chapter 16: Make Or Break

A/N: sorry for the delay, writers block. And yes, there is a reason for Boom Shadow in the header. And there's a place with a familiar name later in this chapter...

5 minutes earlier...

Shadow was with the Diamond Cutters, talking about various things, how the daily missions were going and stuff like that (So if this was a game, there'd be the standard daily missions that Sonic Forces had, but also "special operations" where you'd get to play as the Diamond Cutters.) when the ground shook. Shadow rushed to Amy "What was that!?" he yelled. Amy turned on one of the cameras "Oh that's a lot of bad guys! Shadow, we've got a huge enemy force hitting our frontline!"
"Get Rouge and Omega in here, everyone else, get to your battle stations!"
Everyone nodded before rushing off. Rouge and Omega ran in "Shadow, what do you want us to do?"
"Come with me." Shadow said before Team Dark went into a hallway that lead outside "We're gonna go straight at them. We'll have the artillery guns we took provide fire support with airburst shells. The Scinfaxi will be destroying their Death Crabs from above. This will be a hard battle, but we can do it." Shadow said as they walked through the hallway. Rouge looked at him
"What about Dare? She joining us?"
"On mission somewhere else."
"That's a real shame. Her and her team could probably do some real damage."
"She's... Dealing with personal things."
"Oh..."
"Get into contact with Knuckles, see if Chaos can fight. And make sure he gets some units sent his way for support."
"Copy." Rouge said before getting on her radio "Hey Knucks, you wouldn't happen to still have Chaos with you?"
"He's kinda tired from the last fight he was in, but yeah."
"Shadow needs him."
"Sigh... Fine."
Rouge looked over at Shadow "Alright. Chaos should be on the way."
"Good. Alright, let's go!" he said before they rushed out the door. Right as the sunlight hit they could hear the thuds of explosives and the general sounds of war. He looked at Team Dark and nodded before the three rushed in. The entire base was surrounded, with bots swarming the area. They then heard the whistling and several explosions blanketed the bots on the backside of their base. The Scinfaxi flew by, it's white and blue hull shimmering in the sunlight as it fired it's cannons. Shadow and the rest of Team Dark quickly hopped over a trench "Alright, let's get to work!" Shadow yelled as several Egg Hunters appeared. He smiled before summoning a Chaos Spear "Well, well, well doctor... Sent a lot of your forces towards my direction. Sure would suck if your flank was unprotected..." he said to himself before rushing in and doing a front flip over one of the Egg Hunters, piercing it's armor with a Chaos Spear. He quickly slid across the ground and kicked another's legs, using the boosters on his shoes to heat the metal up before it hit, causing the softened metal to snap. Rouge meanwhile did a flying kick through the "head" of the machine. She quickly flew away from it before uppercuttng a smaller bot and tossing it into a group, taking them out like bowling pins. Omega was behind them, using his miniguns to spray and pray. It was doing a lot of damage too, with him being able to hold his own, even if his teammates weren't there. One smaller bot hopped on his shoulder in attempt to distract him. He collapsed one of his miniguns before grabbing the bot and crushing it in one hand "Inferior model." he said to himself before pulling his other minigun out and hailfiring it. They heard the sound of a ship warping in and saw the Hrimfaxi flying overhead. "This is Warwolf, here to assist!"
Shadow smiled "Warwolf, I need you to attack their backside, I'll have Chaos with you! Inputting the coordinates now!"
"Coordinates received, moving!" Whiplash yelled before the Hrimfaxi gave a parting gift of several cluster bombs. Amy then got on the radio "Uh Shadow, those coordinates lead to the only bridge off this Island!"
"I know. Gonna cut them off!"
"That'll cut us off too! What if we need to evacuate!? The odds aren't exactly in our favor you know!"
"Amy... I've had the odds stacked against me since I was born... This is no different. Plus, we can use the Scinfaxi to evac most of our forces. I'll have Warwolf come back to get the rest." Shadow said before ripping an Egg Hunter in half with his bare hands. "...Amy, evacuate everyone you can onto the Scinfaxi. I'll cover you."
"Wait, what!?"
"Prison Island still has some explosives from an old ploy of Eggman's... I'm gonna turn the island into the biggest powder keg the world has ever seen!"
"Shadow, if you do this... We won't have a home... Our HQ will be destroyed!"
"We can always rebuild. Buildings can be replaced, lives cannot. Go ahead and give the evac order. I'll cover you with the artillery guns on support."
Amy's voice was soft "Shadow... I've already lost Sonic... I can't lose you too..."
"It's rather you lose me, or this entire war. Plus, Sonic isn't lost yet..."
Amy hung up and the Resistance forces started pulling back. Team Dark held the line before there was a brief ceasefire.
