Chapter 2: What We Want To Forget

"The past catches up to the present"

A/N: I mentioned only two OC's appearing, kinda a lie. A third does appear but she's minor. Also the picture is of Dare how she appears in her new outfit she gets in this chapter.

"Shadow... You have to go!"
"Maria, I'm not leaving you!"
"You have to, it's not safe here! Just promise me something..."
"What?"
"Make the world the best you can. Shadow, you have the power... Please..."
"Maria!"
Shadow's eyes shot open as he breathed heavily. He checked the time and noticed it was the next morning. He got up and noticed that the HQ wasn't as chaotic as it was yesterday. Amy was there though, and seemed to almost be happy. "Shadow?"
"Yeah?"
"I think your decision to group our forces up worked. We're getting less casualties per battle. Silver hasn't had any luck though."
"We'll find Tails eventually. We need to get some people to hit on some of Eggman's factories, try and cut off robot production. I'm going to check on Dare."
Shadow walked into the clinic where Dare was awaken and laying on one of the beds.
"So... You're not Maria?" Shadow asked, sitting beside of her.
"That is correct, I'm not Maria."
"If you're not Maria... Who are you!?"
"My name is Dare. I was created to compliment you. When you were created as the ultimate life form, they never could control your temper. That's why I was created... So that you could control your rage, and keep calm. Professor Gerald knew Maria cared for you, and based me off of her as much as he possibly could."
"That's... I don't even know what to say. So you don't have any skills in combat then?"
"Course I do!" Dare said, standing up. She pulled a small case from under her dress, where she had on a jumpsuit and sat it on the bed. She opened it and pulled out what look like a handle to a wispon. She then attached a slide and other things, revealing a normal pistol. She then pulled out another, putting it together. She quickly twirled both pistols down to her sides and slid them behind her, Shadow hearing the sounds of metal against metal. She pulled the pistols out again and twirled them one more time before hitting the slide releases, a satisfying chink sound echoing through the clinic. "I gotta get some new clothes though. This dress does not suit me!" Dare said as she looked at Shadow. He led her to the closet and smiled a little "Well, get what you need. I'll wait."
Dare went through the closet, picking out an outfit that she liked before going into the changing room and changing. She stepped out and Shadow noticed her new outfit. White and yellow sneakers, black jumpsuit that faded to white at the bottom, yellow hoodie and white fingerless gloves with extra padding. "That better?"
"Yeah! So... What we doing?"
"What do you mean?" Shadow asked as he sat down. Dare raised an eyebrow
"I overheard that you were in a war. An "Eggman" was mentioned."
"Oh... Yeah, about that..."
"What is it?"
"Eggman is actually related to... Her..."
"Maria?"
"Y-yeah."
"Oh... Why would he want to fight us?"
"I don't know. We're moving our troops to our inner territory though."
"Why's that?"
"We're spread way too thin. I thought it'd be better to focus more on our inner territories, having better defenses."
"Oh, I get it. I'll gladly help you!"
"But Dare... Could I ask you something?"
Dare looked at him curiously "Of course. What is it?"
"Did... Maria make it?"
"Shadow... We both know the answer to that. She gave her life to save you. I... I watched all that happened. When the alarm was triggered and the bots went rampant... I... I didn't know if I'd ever get to meet you." Dare explained, looking down at the ground. Shadow glanced away before looking back at her" Well, we've got a job to do, let's not waste more time than we got."
"How can I help?"
"Listen you just woke up-"
"I can fight. Your army is obviously lacking, let me help."
Before Shadow could respond, they heard Amy "Shadow, we've got enemy forces in Park Avenue! Any orders!?"
Shadow and Dare rushed in there, looking at the map. "What've we got?"
"Muiltiple Death Crabs, Egg Hunters, among other things. We've got three main battle groups. These are Alpha, Bravo and Charlie. Alpha is led by Team Chaotix..." a picture of Vector appeared over the west side of the city "...Arnec, leading Bravo..." an Artic Wolf with teal eyes and black hair appeared on the screen. "...And Charlie is led by Cristin." as a dark blue dog with bright yellow eyes appeared by Charlie's location. "How are they looking?" Dare asked. Amy sighed "Alpha is doing fine, Bravo has some casualties but nothing major, and Charlie is in shambles after a Death Crab fell and crushed most of them."
Shadow sighed "Charlie's mine."
"I'll take Bravo." Dare said, twirling her pistols. Shadow looked at Amy "Stay here, provide overwatch. We'll go and turn this battle around. Let's go." He told her before walking out the door with Dare. Amy got onto the radio "Bravo, Charlie, you're getting reinforcements."
"This is Arnec, what kind of reinforcements?"
"Dare will be coming to your location. She's the sister of Shadow, so she should be able to help pretty well." Amy explained. Cristin then got on the radio, yelling with her (British) accent
"What about us!? We've lost 65% of our forces! We can't hold much longer!"
"Don't worry Charlie, the commander himself is coming to assist!"
"Copy, my troops will try and hold them off until his arrival. Thanks."
"Just gald you're holding on. You'll get your support. Shadow knows what he's doing."
