"The name's Nick."
Silence.
"As in... from Nicky Ricky Dicky and Dawn?" I rhetorically ask, making all three of them give me a flat look which I return. "Sure, just go ahead and blame me for trying to light up the mood," I add sarcastically and they all reply with a roll of their eyes.
"Whatever," Penny dismisses me, then glares at the man - whose name I guess is Nick - and says firmly, "Right now all I want to know is how the hell this guy knows Doc."
The man- I mean Nick, immediately drops his hands to his sides, moving a half-step closer to Penny as he asks her out of curiosity, "What happened to Doc?"
"Don't answer my question with a question."
"You never asked a question."
I can practically see Penny mentally face-palming herself. She crosses her arms in an attempt to regain her confidence, "Fine then, I'll ask one now. How do you know Doc?"
"But you haven't answered my question," he snaps.
"He's dead," Sam replies before Penny could. "Now answer hers."
Looking a little suprised by Sam's bluntness, Nick (haha I got it this time) slowly shakes his head in amusement before saying, a half-smile half-smirk on his face, "Calm down, you're too eager. The way Doc and I met is a long story... why don't we talk about it over some food?" he suggests. "My treat," he adds after seeing the scowl on Sam's face, and making me immediately perk up at the sound of free food.
Penny scoffs, narrowing her eyes at him, "Do you really expect us to trust you after-"
"Um, excuse me?" I cut her off, gaining their attention, "The dude is willingly volunteering to buy us all free food and the first thing that's coming to your mind is trust? What the-" Sam's unbelievably rough palm slaps over my mouth, successfully shutting me up.
She rolls her eyes at me, looking back at Nick, my face still scrunched up in confusion and annoyance as I continue to stare at her, "Don't mind her." I smack her hand away. "Now, before we go, lemme just make sure you don't think we're agreeing because we trust you or we're friends or any of that unrealistical bullshit or anything. We're just hungry."
I unnecessarily cough, saying in a muffled voice as I pass Penny a pointed look, "Thanks to a certain somebody."
"Hm, I wonder who that is," says Penny, turning her head to the left to look at me, sarcasm heavily dripping from each word.
I return the fake look of confusion on her face. "Yeah, but I guess she must've been a real fool."
"And how exactly would you know that?"
"I just know."
"How?"
"Cause-"
"Meet us at the nearest restaurant when you two are done with... whatever the hell this is, yeah?" walking past Penny and I, Sam cuts us off, already on her way with Nick, not even waiting for our reply.
"Hey wait for us!" Penny and I yell at the same time, running to catch up with them.
~
"We look stupid."
"No, we look cool and suspicious."
"No, we definetly look stupid."
"Thanks for agreeing with me, Sam."
"Aw c'mon! I'm sure we look cool!"
"Easy for you to say, we're the ones wearing bright pink hoodies!" I snap and deadpan at the same time.
