I think I'm dozing again at the bottom of my forest pond. Sometimes I dream that I have a beautiful tail. Probably, this is how people feel whose limbs have been amputated. The Earth Goddess wanted to make us her humans, but in the end, we became cursed: now we are neither humans nor beautiful aquatic creatures. At least, that's how the legend goes, but why, having met the Goddess, I feel only the deliverance from the curse?

It's so sweet to wake up in her arms and the first thing to see after waking up is her Caribbean blue eyes. But why are they full of tears?

I instinctively pull her into my arms and hold on tightly, firing a powerful stream of water where the mage stood, but the stream only hits the wall leaving a terrible hole with a slowly spreading crack.

"Wow!" exclaims a pleasant childish voice.  A little girl is holding me by my mermaid hair laughing with delight. "Mother, Mother, look what a hole! Can Mother's love do it again?"

Hearing her, Marina cries even louder. We are surrounded by spirits and they are everywhere: light spirits of the forest, shy spirits of the soil, even several spirits of fire are jumping like cheerful flickers whispering something to each other. Only two Children have a human form, but they look quite friendly. Ignoring her Mother's sobs, the baby girl with the same kind smile as Marina's is diligently plaiting my hair; the boy found a chocolate bar in a drawer. He is eating it with delight like an ordinary child.

I let my hands relax, but Marina doesn't let go of me.

"Forgive me for everything. Forgive me for not being able to protect you." My voice is slow and shy; I've already noticed ash in the far corner. I know exactly what these ashes were. I guess the fire spirits decided to help with good riddance to some bad rubbish. "I had to protect you," I squeak, almost voiceless.

"You were dead," Marina is sobbing again with renewed vigor. "How did you dare to die! Magical creatures bring only troubles. Damn mermaid, I hate you so much right now, seriously!"

"Mother is just kidding," the girl explains to me as if she were Marina's secretary.

"Hahaha, I wasn't dead," I chuckle nervously, but out of sudden Marina pins me to the floor, grabbing my shoulders. I don't know how she's so strong?

"Do I look like I'm kidding, huh? I can't live without you, you damn mermaid!" Her body goes limp again, and I take her in my arms, sitting comfortably on the floor with her on my laps.

After sincerely enjoying these little noises of her cute sniffing nose, I finally summon my courage to ask her, "How did you revive me?" I can't believe I was dead. I'm a mermaid: it's pretty hard to kill us. I thought I was just dozing.

"I don't know," Marina mutters, her voice shaking.

"She breathed life into you, Mother's love!" the girl answers. Marina is adorably blushing.

I start laughing, "Did you kiss me like if I was Sleeping Beauty?"

"Don't tell anyone about this!" Marina covers my mouth with her hand, and I catch her by the wrist and kiss her hand, glancing warily at her stern bodyguards. What if the Children think that I want to attack their venerable Mother?

"I swear I won't tell anyone," I honestly promise her. "I'm nothing if not silent." I pretend to close my mouth with a zipper. The little girl laughs when she sees my manipulations with my hands, and the boy hands Marina a chocolate bar. She is eating like a child, rubbing tears and chocolate on her face.

"Marina, I gave you a love potion... it's true," I say unexpectedly. Someone repents on the brink of death, for obvious reasons, I'm doing it right after, "I did the worst thing I could do! I swear to you that I will be better for you; I swear that I will never be jealous of you again. Juni said that the potion didn't work on you..."
