This drabble was written for the first WattMaas contest following prompt 2. I might have taken some liberty with it, but I hope it's close enough. If not, I still had fun writing it.
He had brought her flowers, the prettiest ones in Velaris. Yet when Lucien watched Elain tend to the colourful blossoms growing around her, he wanted to toss them aside. They fell short in comparison with what her hands had brought to life. And all of them paled beside her sweet beauty.
His mate. Sunlight gilded her hair.
Her eyes met his. There was no hatred in them, only a curiosity that made his heart skip. Until a shadow fell onto her face, wrapped itself around her like a cocoon of night. A warning to stay away.
And so he did.

Author's Notes: Yes, in case you had any doubts, Lucien is my second favourite character from ACOTAR (after Rhysand, of course) and I really hope that he can find love by the time the series ends. It might not be with Elain, but whoever is out there waiting for him, I want her to be the ONE for my auburn-haired boy.
