The year is 2057. The date is Thursday, May 24th. The world just received the two biggest announcements of the decade.

5 hours ago, the entirety of New York City was essentially wiped off the map.
Everyone said it was a matter of time, but nobody expected it to be this soon. The rising water levels from global warming- oh yeah, we still have to deal with our other world problems too-had forced the city to spend billions just to set up walls and gates to keep the city from flooding. These walls only grew higher as the water did the same. All it took was a well planned villain attack to open the flood gates and submerge half the city. Casualties were lower than expected. Buildings had been built and reinforced to withstand the inevitable flood and most people were able to find their way inside one before the waves hit. From there it was a race against time, heroes and rescue forces rushed to evacuate the stranded citizens. It was truly a heroic effort and it was a miracle there was as many survivors as there were. However, there were still casualties, people who perished because there wasn't enough heroes and not enough time.

1 hour ago, The Global Hero Association promised more heroes and more time.
It wasn't planned to be announced so soon, but in light of the recent attack (The villains involved all escaped, by the way) they decided they needed to show the world their plan to save our society. An international academy stationed in Greenland, the soon to be home of what may very well be the final heroes of the era.  At first, people were confused, offended even. One of the biggest metropolises in the world was underwater and the most powerful association in the world announced a new school. Hooray, we're saved. But it was all they had to hear, so they listened. The plan was to hand select the very best and brightest students from around the world and bring them together, from there, they would be shaped and molded into what the association hoped would be the finest heroes the world had ever known. As they talked more about their final plan, the idea that these kids would be students began to fade. Core classes would be minimal. Once a week, all the classes on one day. The rest of the week was training, if not active duty. Active Duty. Yes, these "students" would be expected to go out into the field with a pro hero as soon as possible, regardless of training or experience. It was trial by fire and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Oh, would you look at that?

A letter has come for you in the mail.
