When I Cared

An observation of people in general.
This poem is for anyone who has ever felt different. I know sometimes it feels like we don't fit in, but there are people who love us. Sometimes you just haven't found your people. This is a poem about knowing who your friends are and about not having to analyze everything you say in front of people who love you.

WHEN I CARED

My family told me I was special
They told me I was unique
But when I discovered the world
Kids called me a freak
I had different clothes
Different hair
Different ideas
They would stare

For a while
I chose to act, wore a brave face
Even a smile

But as I got older I didn't care
What they thought of my ideas
What they thought of my hair
There were people that loved me There were people that were there

When I was lonely they were there
When I was me-
They didn't care.
