A Quick Trip

"I hate car rides, they're so uncomfortable." Ashlyn complained, getting in her car and starting to drive.

"It's only about 45 minutes away babe." Big Red reminded her.

"I know. It's just boring. And hot."

"I mean, that's true." He nodded.

"Even if it's not hot, the air still feels weird." She continued. "It's like... dusty."

"Um... I kinda know what you mean?"

"I don't know." She shrugged. "How's Hazel been during car rides?"

"Pretty calm."

"It's so weird that I don't know that..."

"I guess."

"She's our daughter and I only knew her a few months." She said.

"You're here now Ash."

"I just feel oddly guilty."

"You shouldn't."

"I know, I know." She nodded. "I feel like I missed a lot. And... I know she probably won't remember anyways, but it's weird she missed me in almost a year of her life."

"Luckily, she doesn't know what she's missing. Literally."

"Yeah." She glanced at him before turning back to the road. "Love you."

"You too."

"Hey." Ashlyn sat by EJ, sliding into the large booth their friends were all going to share. Big Red slid in next to her. The three of them were currently the only ones there.

"Hi Ash." EJ hugged her. She let go of Big Red's hand to hug him back.

"How long've you been here?" Big Red asked curiously.

"A few minutes, I think some of the others are almost here."

"Okay." He nodded. It wasn't long before everyone else was there. Ricky sat in between Big Red and Nini. Kourtney was between Nini and Carlos, who sat by Seb. The booth was closed off with Gina.

"I want to hug all of you." Ashlyn said, taking a drink of water, causing a few laughs. "I guess I can't do that sitting right here, but whatever." She shrugged.

"Thanks." Ashlyn smiled, taking Hazel back from her mom who had been watching her as they ate. She sat on the living room couch, Big Red sitting next to her with a small smile.

"Anytime. I'll be there soon, I have to finish up some work."

"Take your time!" She leaned on Big Red's shoulder, who was tickling Hazel and grinning. "You two are so cute."

"She's just so adorable!" He kissed Ashlyn's cheek.

"And I'll keep saying it, she looks a lot like you."

"I still think she looks more like you. But okay. And thanks." He smiled, making her do the same.

"I don't know." She shrugged and kissed him before putting her head back on his shoulder and using her free hand to hold his.

"Ashlyn?" Her mom came back into the room. "Come talk with your father and I."

"Um, yeah, alright?" She set Hazel in Big Red's arm before following her mom to another room. "What?"

"Your father and I, together we decided—"

"Which is rare." He grunted.

"Quiet." She said, glaring at him. "We decided that our time married is—"
