The blond haired Slytherin stayed on her mind all week. She tried desperately to throw herself back into her studies, focusing on her mixtures in Potions and practicing her wand flicks for Charms. But it was useless; he was all she could think about. The whole week was just about going through the motions: getting up, eating breakfast, going to class, dinner and then bed, only to do it all over again. She never felt like she was really there.
The endless chatter of the younger girls who had been invited by seventh year boys filled her ears wherever she went, talking of their ball gowns and the handsome dates they were going with, their luck of being asked by an upperclassman almost unbelievable.
Not as handsome as mine, she thought to herself, I can't wait to see all of their faces.

She had waited all week and as she put the finishing touches on herself, she grew extremely nervous, almost not wanting to go down at all. Hermione had decided to get ready in her private Head Girl rooms, wanting the two of them to surprise each other later that evening.
Smoothing the white-blond hair in front, she turned to the side to make sure her curly, loose bun was perfect. Little, curled strands were pulled from it, softly resting on her shoulders. Spritzing on a few sprays of her trademark French vanilla perfume, she looked herself over one last time. Smoothing her dress, she took a breath and walked out of the dormitory.
Harry and Ron turned to look at her as she walked down the stairs. Harry smiled up at her, Ron shuffling his feet, nervous to get Hermione.
Harry smiled at her sheepishly, "You look beautiful."
"Thank you," She beamed, "You gentlemen look quite dapper yourself."
Harry smiled at her, nudging Ron out of his trance, mumbling a thank you.
"You'll be fine, Ron." Ashley assured him, patting his shoulder.
"I don't know how to dance." He confessed his eyes big and full of worry.
"I'm sure Hermione will understand." Ashley smiled at him. He nodded, mumbling to himself as he started to walk out of the portrait.
"I know you're going with Malfoy," Harry rolled his eyes, "but can I walk you down?"
"Of course." She smiled, taking his arm as he led her out after Ron.

The whispers and gasps filled her ears as some of the girls recognized the dress she was wearing.
"I knew she would have looked perfect in it!"
"What a beautiful dress!"
"Why does she have to be such a show off?" One snapped.
She looked up when she felt Harry's grip on her slacken, seeing Draco standing at the bottom of the stairwell. He was sneering up at Harry in challenge. Harry smiled at Ashley once more and silently walked away before Draco could slip any snide remarks.
"You would wear black." She teased, smoothing the shoulders of his suit.
"Black is classy." He smirked at her.
"Black is boring." She corrected.
"Excuse me, I have some color." He chided at her, pointing to the dark navy pocket square.
