DREAM

I hated this environment.

Since I was a child I had never liked royalty, and even less this type of event. I decided to join the royal guard because I was tired of always running away and living in the shadows, not because I was finally going to have "luxuries" or somewhere to live... Even though I hated the setting I was in, I was doing it for my friend. George deserved this day to be happy, even if it wasn't for him, and I wanted to be present.

George was at the altar next to an old man in a robe, talking about royalty, and sometimes George answered with oaths to the kingdom and blah blah blah. I was glad that I had the mask on, so people wouldn't know that I was half asleep and yawning.

There were too many people attending the coronation, up to this point I was impressed that the castle had allowed so many civilians to enter. Didn't they realize that any of them could be a murderer or something worst? Maybe it was just my mindset. But they still put the best guards closer to the altar. I was on the right side, scanning the room and behind the pillars, on the other side was Punz. In the background I could see Ponk and Bad guarding the entrance, along with other guards pacing the room and making sure everything was in order.

That old man was still talking, I was about to fall asleep when the whole audience rose to applause for George. He had given me his glasses and told me to take care of them with my life, but they were already bothering me a bit by being hooked on the back of my belt. I watched George for a few moments thinking about how much he had grown since we met, he still remembered when his aunt had given him those glasses and never took them off again. He strangely found me thinking that he had become a bit... attractive... until the sight of him collided with mine. He looked a bit nervous and now he was holding his head high with a golden crown of diamonds and precious stones. I nodded, hinting at words that only he could hear. He smiled and waited for the old man to give the following orders.

George had become king.

—————

I was waiting in the corridor outside George's room after the coronation as ordered. As soon as I was incorporated into the royal guard, it was tedious for me to maintain a straight position with the armor, cape and ax weighing on my back, but over the years I had gotten used to it and now I could spend the whole day in the same position, but for some reason I was impatient to see George, I wanted to know what he was thinking right now with the whole situation.

And thinking about someone, the figure of him turned the corner of the corridor and I saw his face shine when he saw me waiting for him, he could not give a normal reaction since he saw a maiden next to him asked a thousand things for the celebration of the night.

"Do you prefer blueberry or strawberry tarts?"

"Blueberry."

"Silk or cotton tablecloths?"

"The ones you find first."

"Fruit punch or lemonade, your Highness?"

"Huh? I don't know, I don't like tea."

George shot me a helpful look, so I interrupted.

"Excuse me miss, the king prefers to rest until the time for the celebration, you can use the preferences of the previous king."

The poor maid was puzzled in the hallway and she just opened the door for George, once she was out of our reach perhaps, I wanted to give my humble opinion.

"Add blue decorations and cooked sausage pulpits"

"To the order ". The maid winked at me smiling and she ran into the kitchen.

Once inside his room, George began to remove the thousands of layers of clothing he was wearing as he went into his closet and rummaged through things.

"All good?"  I asked laughing at his desperate reaction.

"All good? I almost threw up there on my nerves." I laughed at his comment, "You don't understand how uncomfortable everything was, I wanted to kick that man to shut up, I was falling asleep just because of his voice! Then Bad started making funny faces in the background and I wanted to laugh, but I couldn't do anything about it either." Clothes fell into the closet and then the sound of metal buttons fastening and George's agitated voice. I laughed to myself as I imagined George fighting with the shirt again. He came out of the closet changed into his pajamas and kicking the beautiful clothes he was wearing previously in a corner of his room. "Too much social interaction, I want to sleep."

He didn't have to ask. He surely had spent the night reading to ignore that today was his coronation and now he was tired. He got into his bed and covered himself up to his ears. I walked over and put his glasses on his nightstand and closed the heavy curtains on his window.

"I'll wake you up when it's time."

Already being half asleep answered: "Mhmm."

Just like the old days, I stayed on the couch across the room reading a book or two. George liked to have company when he took naps, so I usually stayed with him.
