"Cause they are the insane in the world of the sane"
"Lafander..." the words were out of her mouth before she could even comprehend the situation properly. In walked the aawara gunda from todays college brawl.
Tejo immediately leapt out of the bed and onto her feet, as soon as she stood a wave of regret passed over her as she felt light headed. The room began to spin around her, blurring her vision and causing her body to sway as her knees buckled and she went crashing towards the floor.
But he was there, his arm snaked around her body as he broke her fall. Pulling the shadain against himself he let her lean on him, taking her weight while she steadied herself. She looked tired, her face was awfully pale, the tint of rose on her cheeks missing from this morning.
"Are you alright?" he asked as his forehead creased in what looked like worry.
"Of course! except for the fact that it hurts to move and my head is pounding and I had an accident some time back, I haven't felt better in a while" Tejo spat giving him her best sarcastic smile.
Fateh rolled his eyes. This woman was tired, her body couldn't support itself but she doesn't leave a chance to bite back. What is she made of? Her eyes are flush red and her body weak but she wants to engage in an argument by providing snarky comments rather than straight froward answers.
Wrapping his arm tighter around her he helped her onto the bed as he bit his tongue to prevent engaging in a war of words once again. Tejo too took relaxing breaths as she eased onto the bed. His arms drew back from her waist and the lack of their warmth suddenly made her more aware of her situation.
"Woh...meri gaadi ...aapka accident...mera matlab hai ki meri gaadi se aapko takkar lagi, aap behosh hogayi thi toh main aapko apne ghar le aaya. The doctor cleaned and bandaged your wounds already and..." Fateh rambled but was cut short by Tejo's words
"Jaan boojhkar kiya na" Tejo said as she looked up at him standing beside the bed. "What!?" he exclaimed
"Accident, you purposely ran me over right? Because of this afternoon?" Tejo questioned. Her voice calm as ever but a storm was brewing underneath.
Fateh looked at her shocked. She was crazy, he knew now that she lacked the smallest bit of logic and common sense in her. God only knows how the hell she became a professor.
"Excuse me!?" Fateh managed to let out as he over came his state of shock over her shallow argument. "Are you accusing me of trying to hurt you...kill you on purpose?"
"No, I am only asking if that was your intention..." The calmness of Tejo's response sent Fateh over the edge, this woman just knew how to press his buttons. It had been less than 5 minutes in each others company and he was already losing both his cool and sanity.
"Are listening to yourself? It was dark, I was on a drive to blow off some steam! I DID NOT SEE YOU! this was an accident" Fateh yelled as the irritation got to him.
"Don't you dare yell! And never speak to me in that tone...I am talking to you very nicely. Like I said it is a question not an accusation. And this question is not mine it was seeded by two people who were talking outside. They were speculating whether my accident was done on purpose." Tejo responded. She had enough of his badtameezi. No on treats her like this, she will not tolerate being yelled at by this lafander. How dare he disrespect her? How dare he raise his voice?
Mahi and Amrik who had entered the room when Fateh was yelling looked at each other in guilt.
"Veere" Mahi called out to Fateh "She is right we were..." and at that Tejo laughed. Fateh's head snapped back in her direction at the sound of her laughing.
" Your own siblings doubt your intentions and you expect me to believe you!" Giggling she continues "This Mr Fateh really speaks volumes about your character"
Inhaling a long breath in an attempt to control the sheer rage and fury he could feel coursing through his veins Fateh looked back at his siblings "Explain." he demanded.
"Fateh veer hum toh bas yuhi mazaak kar rahe the... Mahi aur main dono jaante hai ki aap jaan buchkar kisi ka accident nahi karoge" Amrik answered
Then turning to Tejo he continued "waise you should not be eaves dropping on our conversation, mind you own business woman. My brother saved you, you should be thankful par tum toh uske sar par chadh ke naach rahi ho"
"Look, I have already told your brother and now I am telling you. Do not talk to me in that tone, tum jaise ko main achhi tarah se jaanti hoon"
"YOU..." Amrik yelled back but was cut off by Fateh
"Thats enough!"Fateh yelled "I'm done with this nonsense" he said as he turned back towards Tejo
"Well that makes two" she responded shrugging her shoulders
"Sun liya?" Fateh continued ignoring her remark "It was an honest mistake, agar mujhe aisa kuch karna hi hota toh main aapko wahi pe nahi chodh deta?" Fateh reasoned.
Tejo's eyes narrowed scrutinising Fateh "main yaha pe kabse hoon?" Tejo questioned in an attempt to change the topic.
"About 5 ish hours" Fateh responded. And at that Tejo's eyes widened. 5 hours meant it was about early morning. Jasmine wouldn't have noticed her absence. When she slept even an earthquake wouldn't disturb her younger sister. But Abhiraj, her brother would be worried. If she did not show up for their early morning terrace talks over chai than he would check on her. If he found her missing then he was would turn entire Moga upside down to find her.
"Kya mein phone borrow karsakti hoon? I have to inform someone that I am safe and so I can be picked up from here"
Mahi silently passed her phone to Tejo.
"Address?"
"MLA Kushbeer Singh Virk ka ghar" Amrik responded.
Tejo's attention snapped to him "Tum teeno unke bacche ho?"
Mahi nodded in response
Tejo had not only heard about the MLA but also had the honour of hosting him during a seminar at the college. The man was stern and principled. His ideas, ambitions and passion for this country reflected in his every speech and every action. A man of morals and a man with a plan. His goal for the country were ambitious but he in the past years had done remarkable things. Especially for the education of the youth.
What she could not believe was that man had raised a son like this lafander.
"Fateh, Fateh Singh Virk" Fateh said giving her his best smug look.
Rolling her eyes Tejo called Abhiraj
"Suno, kya tum mujhe MLA Virk ke ghar se pick up lar loge?... Tum bas aajao main baad mein tumhe sab amjhati hoon"
With that Tejo returned the phone to Mahi. That is when she realised something else. The clothes she was currently in were not the clothes she was wearing earlier.
"Mere kapde?" Tejo looked up questioningly
"Unpar khoon lag gaya tha toh badal diye" Fateh responded, almost bored at her questions
Tejo's eyes widened and eyebrows rose as she exclaimed "Tumne!?"
