Guude had spent several days preparing the feast. He had wanted to invite the entirety of Mindcrack, it just didn’t seem like they did as much as a whole group any more, but, to his surprise, most of the group declined. He was left with only nine guests who accepted, leaving it to be only one third of the Mindcrack group attending the banquet.
Though he was discouraged, as well as slightly saddened that the Mindcrackers had better things to do than have fun with him and the rest of their fellow Mindcrack members, the party did seem to be going well.
Most of the attendees were off chatting, though some were helping themselves to the drinks Guude had set out, as well as eyeing up the food he had prepared for them to soon eat. Guude was quite surprised at how easily the Mindcrack Town Hall had become a banquet hall, the huge meeting table easily becoming packed with plates, food, and various other necessities.
Taking his seat at the head of the table, Guude called for attention from the other partygoers, who took their seats as well and looked up at him, their attentions caught.
“I would just like to thank all you guys for coming,” Guude proclaimed with a smile, “Though I wish everyone could have made it.” There were shrugs and nods of agreement in response, though the group didn’t seem too bothered. Guude took in the scene, looking at each Mindcracker in turn. Blame, Zisteau, Kurt, Vechs, Etho, Anderz, Seth, Pyro, and Pause. He smiled again, then waved his hand in dismissal.
Everyone began to chatter again, though Guude’s attention was caught when he saw Anderz beckoning him over.
“What is it, guy?” He questioned, one of his eyebrows shooting up.
“I would just like to make an announcement after we eat.” Was the response, letting Guude catch sight of a manila envelope he was brandishing, said envelope appearing to have several papers inside.
“Sure guy, go right ahead.” And with that, Guude returned to his place at the table, and after an unimportant conversation with Pause, called for everyone’s attention again.
“Alright, I think it’s time we dig in.” The group cheered, and Guude picked up his fork and knife, preparing to grab a piece of chicken from the plate in front of him. He noticed that Anderz had already filled his plate, digging in greedily as soon as Guude gave the okay.
What Guude noticed next was said person choking, his fork and knife clattering to the table as his hands swiftly went for his neck. Blame was the first to react as everyone looked on in shock, clambering to the choking Swede, who had already slumped over on to the table by the time Blame got there.
They all looked on in horror as BTC checked for a pulse, swiftly moving to see where Anderz would respawn by looking at his Respawn Watch. The skull masked man did an obvious double take, again checking the watch.
“Guys.” He stated, everyone looking up at him immediately as he solemnly shook his head, “He’s dead, and his watch was turned off. He’s gone.”
The group reacted instantly, shouting and scrambling around, some attempting to clamber for the door, as something obviously wasn’t right.
In that moment, just as they reached the threshold of the Town Hall, everything went wrong. All nine remaining watches flickered out instantly, their faces becoming dead and grey rather than their usual lively green. Then there was a whoosh of air, and suddenly the world border they had dispelled oh so long ago was back, trapping them in their beloved Spawn Town.
The tables turned on them, the nine Mindcrackers rushed back to the Town Hall, frightened and unnerved. What was happening?
Guude walked shakily to wear Anderz lay permanently dead, finding that the envelope he had contained papers that accused each one of them of something. Each was something terrible, murder, kidnapping, torture, anything of that sort. Those things couldn’t be true, could they?
Guude reported his findings to the group, who immediately began to deny what they were each accused of. The more interesting thing, though, was that there was also a paper under where Anderz’s plate had been, said plate being knocked to the ground and shattered when Anderz had struggled as he died.
The leader of Mindcrack showed the paper to the group, before he nervously read it aloud, finding that it was a poem. It read:
Ten Little Mindcrackers
Ten little Mindcrackers, nine summoned to dine;
One was too brash and then there were nine.
Nine little Mindcrackers, filled with confusion and hate;
One upheld their motto and then there were eight.
Eight little Mindcrackers, two already in heaven;
Irony struck and then there were seven.
Seven little Mindcrackers, all mining with picks;
One loved something too much and then there were six.
Six little Mindcrackers, one went for a dive;
One’s life flickered out and then there were five.
Five little Mindcrackers, on the brink of war;
One sustained their commitment and then there were four.
Four little Mindcrackers, losing the will to flee;
One was too confident in escape and then there were three.
Only three Mindcrackers left;
One suffered the wrath of the sun,
The killer was betrayed;
And then there was one.
Guude dropped the paper as fear struck him, the poem fluttering to the floor. Someone here, one of the trusted members of his group, one of his friends, was a traitor, and was going to murder them. They had already struck once.
As he attempted to calm himself he heard someone angrily mutter about how elaborate this was, and someone else ask who could be intelligent enough to pull something like this off.
Just as Guude gained enough composure to try to take control of the situation and respond, though, his vision suddenly went dark, as if someone had thrown a blindness potion on him. He heard a scream, but when the blindness quickly wore off, the eight other Mindcrackers were gone.
They weren’t there to see Guude look at Anderz’s limp form, reach a hand toward his blood spilling neck that was also surrounded by a pool of blood, and pull a razor blade from it.
