Backstory:
Pearl's mother's, Nicole Kidman's, husband Matt was away for a year on a business trip with the children and Nicole decided to go to a local bar to wind down for the night.
While there she met a handsome man and had a one night stand with him. This wasn't the first time that Nicole had done this, but it would be the first time that a child had come out of it.
When Nicole found out that she was pregnant a week later, the man (Poseidon) contacted her and told her to send her child to a special camp if she decided to keep it. Nicole did decide to keep the child as she didn't believe in abortion and two months after the girl, later named Pearl Smith by the demigods, was born.
Nicole dropped her off at the camp in a basket with a letter and left. She wanted nothing to do with Pearl because she could ruin her reputation (don't see why she couldn't have pretended the child was Matt's or y'know just not cheat at all) so off Pearl went.
However, they would meet again only a year or two after this event.
