I don't hate Fitz, I just don't like him. Even since the beginning, I have never liked Fitz. I just don't know why. Maybe it's because he was to perfect to real. Like every character, book or not, that I have formed a connection with has flaws that you see from the first book they are introduced in. For example, Nico tends to hold grudges and Annabeth is prideful. You know that from the get go. Fitz on the other hand, we don't see his tendency to lash out until the second book and even then it was slightly justified. Even the best of us can inadvertently hurt people close to us in anger. Right?

However, I really started to... hate him, for lack of a better word, in Legacy. He was in the wrong there, he had no justification for treating Sophie like that. Now you sofitz shippers out there will be making a bunch of excuses for his behaviour that night. About how Sophie shouldn't have kept his brother's location a secret like that. Well jokes on you because I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about how he pressured Sophie into telling him about what happened with Councillor What's-Her-Name (I did that on purpose). No matter what your spouse/significant other has done, if you claim to love and care for them, you do not force them to tell you something that they quite clearly do not want to talk about. Even saying 'Okay, you'll tell me later' is not something you should do. If they say that they don't want to talk about it, you drop the subject until they bring it up again. Especially if they say they don't want to tell you ever. They are entitled to their privacy.

Now I'm not sure if this is something that Tiegarn(sp?) said canonically or if this is fanfic talking. Either way I agree with him. He said that the level of trust that cognates needed to achieve was the type of trust in which your cognate could withhold information and you still trust them enough to know that if it was something that you needed to know, they would have told you. Sophie and Fitz just don't have that level of trust yet and Fitz's actions did not help their progress.

So no I do not hate Fitz. I just don't think of him as a character that I would like, now or in the future. However if he and Sophie ever formed a brother/sister type relationship I would be happy.
