Backstory:
Arista Clarke's father, Oliver Clarke, married her stepmother when she was about 6 years old. His new wife, Christy, was extremely manipulative and emotionally abusive, constantly belittling Arista and making her feel unloved.
Her father was non the wiser about what was happening to his daughter. When Arista was 11 she got a visit from a Hogwarts official who told her that she was a muggleborn witch. Now Arista's stepmother was an old fashioned conservative Christian and when she found out the abuse became a lot worse. She called her the devil incarnate and things of the sort.
It was somewhat alleviated by the fact that Arista was gone most of the year, refusing to come home during Christmas.
