𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿...
I was sitting with Naomi at lunch. We were taking about the exams that were coming up. I needed to get my grades up, I had my dad coming at my neck about how teachers were complaining that I was doing badly. I've spent so much time focused on other things, that I've not even had time to take a look at my school work. I needed to get my head back in the game though. I'm not trying to repeat junior year, but unless I don't get my grades up, I might have to be.
I saw a bunch of police walking into the school, I assumed that they probably had their person. We were all prepared to find out who it was. I stopped doing my research, the whole reason I did was for Harrison. Since he broke up with me, I didn't have a reason to do it no more. So I put all that energy into my studies, and I ended up being top of the class. Harrison can suck on that. I saw the police coming closer, and I started to wonder who it could be. But who it was, shook me to my core.
A police came up behind me, and he said "Haven Colstone, you are under arrest on suspicion of first degree murder. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can, and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to a defence attorney, but if you cannot afford one, it will be provided for you."
I watched everyone stare, as the police took me away. If I was on suspicion for first degree murder, then they will trial me as an adult. If the jury agrees, I get life in jail. I looked at Naomi, before being shoved into a police car. When my dad said that the police were building a case, I didn't know that it was against me. I would never hurt Sapphire, but they seem to have evidence that shows that I would. Clearly it's enough to arrest me, even though I know that I'm not guilty, if I get found as guilty, I will spend the rest of my life in jail. I could even get the death penalty. I'm not going to go down for a crime that I did not commit. The worst part is, I don't know whether Harrison believes it was true or not. I really hope that doesn't, I hope he realises that he knows me better than that, and he knows that I would never lay finger on Sapphire. Even though I only knew her for a little while, she was the sweetest, the funniest, and the most energetic person I had ever met. She a heart of gold, and a smile that would light up cities. She didn't deserve what happened to her, what hurts even more is the fact that people think that I'm capable of that. I'm literally Colstone's daughter, and people still looked at me with disgust as I got taken away in the police car. If it was Myles, everyone would be protesting on his name. I should've known that I would've never gotten the same treatment that he did, I can't be the long lost daughter that came back from the dead and just expect everything to go right for me. That's not how it works, I just really want the police to realise that this is not me. I'm either getting framed or the evidence wrong, because like I said before, and I will say it again, I would never lay a finger on Sapphire.
When I got to the station, they had me locked up a tiny room. There was only two chairs and a table. My hands were handcuffed to the legs of the table. Just then, a policewoman walked in. She looked at me, and then she said "you're quite young to be accused of murder. I'm just here to do my job, anyways. I'm sheriff Larson." I looked at her, and then I responded with "Haven, Haven Colstone. I feel like I was wrongly accused." She looked at me shocked, and then she asked "Jack Colstone is your father? Shit. How the hell did you manage to get accused of first degree murder? You probably are wrongly accused. But I have to question you either way. It's job unfortunately." I nodded, and then she asked "when the police first questioned you, you said that you left the dance around 8:45pm, and you didn't come back until 10:20pm. By then, Sapphire was already dead. You were gone for significantly over an hour. When you came back, your friends walked in about ten minutes later. What were you doing during the space you were gone?" I took a deep breath, and then I responded with "I left the dance. I wasn't planning on coming back. My friends had abandoned me, told me they were coming, but they didn't. I went back after they texted me, they told me that something had came up, but they were on their way. I saw Sapphire the night she died, in the place she died. I was throwing something in the bin, and she was standing in front of the dumpsters. We briefly spoke, and she was telling me that she wasn't into dances. Otherwise she would've came. She was smoking, that's why she was standing outside, you're not allowed to smoke on campus. That's why she went where no one would see her. Unfortunately, that was the place she met her demise. Not by the hands of me, though. I left her at 9:35pm. She was still alive. Someone must've went to see her after me. That person was probably the person that killed her. I loved Sapphire, I would never hurt her. Not now, not ever." Sheriff Larson turned the recording off. She looked at me, and then she said "I believe you. I don't believe that you're capable of murder. My bosses on the other hand, can't say the same about them. They found DNA residue from you. They said it was on Sapphire's clothes. Did you touch her at all? They think that it's skin particles, meaning you made contact with her. Also, the top that you went to throw away, it had a huge red stain on it. Which the cops assumed was blood. They thought that you were trying to get rid of evidence. They clearly didn't see the conversation you had with Sapphire. There's no proof of that conversation, since there's no cameras there." I nodded, and then I replied with "I hugged her, that might possibly be it. Also, the shirt was Carson's, not mine. Myles is my brother, and Carson was his boyfriend at the time. Carson had a bit of a drinking problem. He promised Myles that he would stop, he didn't want to break that promise. a couple nights before Sapphire's death, he was in my dorm, and we were just talking and having fun. That night, he spilled red wine all over his shirt. He knows that Myles always comes in my dorm because he's my brother. He tried to wash The shirt, multiple times, and the stain wouldn't come out. He couldn't leave it in his dorm, he knew Myles would find it. But he couldn't leave it in mine either. He told me to look after it and to try washing it again, to see whether it would come out or not. It still didn't come out, so I texted him and asked him what I should do with it. He told me to just throw the whole top away, so that's what I went to do." Sheriff Larson nodded, and then she asked "interesting. So if we bring Carson in, he can confirm that? Because if he does, the shirt is no longer going to be counted as a piece of evidence against you. But it's still not going to be enough to let you go. You will be placed in a temporary prison, by yourself, for seventy-two hours. If we get any new evidence within that time, that proves that it wasn't you, you will be set free, and this will be removed off of your records. But, if we find anymore evidence that shows that it was you, you will be placed into a real prison with other inmates, until you go to trial. You will be trialled as an adult. With first degree murder charges, plus withholding evidence and information. You are looking at life in prison, if not a death penalty. This information will be told to your parents. If after seventy-two hours, we get nothing, you will be let out on bail. With a police anklet, monitoring your every move. It can't record sound, but it detects movement and location. I'm so sorry. Personally, I would let you go. I don't believe you did this, but I have to listen to my superiors, and they are saying otherwise." I nodded, and then I said "I understand. Thank you for being so nice. I thought I was going to be interrogated. But if you're going to take me to that temporary prison, let's just get it over with." She nodded, and then she unlocked the handcuffs from my hands. She took me outside, and put me into a police car. She then took me to the temporary prison.
It was very small. There was a toilet, a bed, and a change of clothes to last three days. I wasn't even allowed to shower. I was allowed visitors though. But only for thirty minutes. I really hoped that they would be able to find evidence that would show that I wasn't guilty. People at school are probably losing their minds right now. I would too. I'm pretty sure everyone would, especially when the principal's daughter gets arrested on suspicion of murder. It's been two days since I got arrested, I'm still in this temporary prison. My dad came to visit me, he informed my mum of the situation, but he told her that he was taking care of it. So she didn't need to come down. I spoke to Naomi and Myles over the phone, I told Naomi a piece of information which is going to get me out of here by tomorrow. She's looking at it as we speak, I didn't tell the police this bit of information. There's a reason for that, I don't know what I'm going to find. So I need to know what it is, before we give it to the police. Not many people know about this, but there is a video camera that is recording 24/7 underneath the dumpsters. You can see a clear view of anyone that's standing next to them, they record sound and everything. I told Naomi to go and find it, and to look at it from the night Sapphire died. It's probably going to show the conversation between me and Saphy, not to mention, who killed her. Naomi is watching it, when's she's finished, she's going to come and tell me exactly what she saw. Then we'll make a decision together on whether we should give it to the police or not. Or whether we should give the police some of it, before I was doing my research to help Harrison, because he deserved closure for Saphy. I want to restart my research, not for him, but for me. Because whoever it is that killed her, is trying to let me take the blame for it, and I'm not going to let that happen. When I get released tomorrow, I'm going to make sure that this person goes down.
It was later on in the day, Naomi had just came down to see me. I looked at her, and then I asked "what did you find?" She nodded, and then she responded with "what I found is enough to clear you. It shows your entire conversation with Sapphire, not to mention the time that it happened. It also shows that you left the dumpster, and Saphy was still alive. I have some interesting information though, from 9:45pm to 10:05pm, the screen is blank. There's no recording whatsoever, after 10:05pm, the recording is back. And all you can see is Sapphire's body laying on the floor, next to the dumpsters, with blood pooling out of her head. This was a premeditated attack, they knew to wipe the video cameras, that's what shows that they were planning to do this." I looked at her in shock, and then I said "wait, that means I'm cleared. I can go home tomorrow. That's crazy though, the fact that someone wanted to do this to Saphy. She was the sweetest person ever. Who would ever want her dead?" Naomi looked at me, and then she replied with "I don't know. But yes, you can go home tomorrow. Also, what I'm about to tell you is the best bit. We've all had this inkling that a witch killed Sapphire. This confirmed that it was true. I gave Myles the camera, I wanted to see whether he would be able to find anything. While he was holding the camera, he felt a tingle. That tingle was magical residue. The camera was wiped with a spell. A witches spell." I looked at Naomi, and then I asked "do you have any idea what witch it could be." She nodded, and then she replied "no. Myles is running all types of witchy tests. He's trying everything. All types of spells, and reverse spells. He's sending a copy of the footage to the police, as we speak. You will be free, but we will find out who did this. We will take them down together. They are not going to get away with killing Sapphire, and letting you take the blame for it. Remember the research that we used to do? We're gonna start that back up. We're gonna give Sapphire the justice she deserves. She was an amazing person, who was taken from us, way too quickly. Her death will be avenged. We owe her that. Her killer deserves to rot. I have to go though. My thirty minutes is up. I'll see you tomorrow when you get back to school." I nodded, and then I said "well said, but yeah, I'll see you tomorrow." And then she got up and left.
Everything Naomi said was one hundred percent true. Sapphire is going to get justice that she deserves. Her death was unjust, and we are not going to go down without a fight. She deserves closure, she deserves to be avenged, and we are going to give that to her. Saphy was such a good person. She deserves the world, and we're gonna make sure that she gets that. Even if it's the last thing we do.
