Floo powder. 'What kind of name is that?' I wonder as I wait for the man with the bright red hair to get me down.
Wait, let me explain. Emerson thought it would be a 'good experience' to use magic to get us straight to Diagon Alley; some wizarding place that we're going to buy school supplies. Of course, me being me, I messed up when I shouted out where I needed to go, and ended up in what looked like a joke shop, yes, hanging upside down from one of the strange things hanging from the ceiling.
He finally got me down and set me straight. " 'Ello," he said, sticking out his hand, "My name's George Weasley. Welcome to Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes! Sorry for the way you had to first see it, but now that you're down on the ground, mind telling me who you are and how we can find your parents?"
I smiled. It was clear that he was a really kind person, just kind of...gangley and funny. Perfect for the owner of a joke shop. "I'm Scarlet Westbrook, and to tell you the truth I have no idea how to find my dad and cousin," I confessed. My dad would most likely be as lost as I am, and I have no idea how to track down Emerson in this unknown place. We left Lanie at home, and she's the only one we have a tracker on (she tends to wander off a lot. I mean, I do too, but I can find my way back. Lanie...not so much).
"Well, if you used Floo powder you can't be a bunch of muggles, right?" he asked. I searched my mind for the word muggles. Emerson had tried to brief me on all the words that I needed to know last night when she explained to my dad and I about the wide world of wizarding. Oh yeah, muggle means non-magical people.
"Well, my cousin Emerson is a witch, I just don't know-" I started before he cut me off.
"Emerson, as in, Emerson Maples, Emerson?" he asked, suddenly excited.
"Uh, yeah...do you know her?" I asked
"Do I know her!" he shouted, "She's dating my son!"
It was my turn to be surprised. Just as I was about to ask, well, I don't know what I would've asked. There were too many questions swirling around inside my head to pick just one, but I didn't have time to ask any of them, because my dad and Emerson came bursting through the door.
"Thank goodness we found you!" Emerson swept me up into a big hug.
"It was only for a few minutes," I mumbled into her clothes.
"Hello Emerson! It looks like your cousin here takes after you," Mr.George called.
Emerson's face flushed bright red as I asked, "What do you mean?"
"Oh, a million years ago when Emerson was your age, she did the same thing you did with Floo powder, except ended up sitting on my son Fred's lap," Mr.George explained, a grin stretched across his face. "That was one heck of a way to meet, huh Emmie? Little did I know that a couple years later she and Fred would start going out!" he laughed as Emerson's face just got redder.
"I didn't know that you had a boyfriend Emerson!" I exclaimed.
"Oh lets just go," Emerson huffed as she grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door.
I blinked as the bright sunlight hit my face. "Isn't there a list in here someplace?" I murmured as I started to shuffle around in Emerson's bag looking for the list of supplies that came with my letter. "Here it is!" I called triumphantly as I found the list. I hadn't looked it over thoroughly, but I decided to make sure I had before we actually went in search for the things.
