A Wand for You, A Wand for Me-First Year

"What's next on the list?" I ask as we step out of Madam Malkin's shop. I blink at the bright light. With so many of us to measure, we'd been in there for quite awhile, but at last we all had our school robes, so that was one more thing off the list. We'd stopped by Flourish and Blotts first, so we had bags full of books in tow.

After that, we went to the Apothecary, which was cool, if a bit smelly. It was at that point that the store owner had to scramble around because he ran out of his pre-made sets of basic ingredients.
Once that was sorted out, we'd stopped next to get our cauldrons, which we decided to use as buckets to hold our books, and the other supplies like the telescope and scales. Then, the adults transported all of the thing we'd gotten so far to our separate houses, so we could have our hands free again.
After all that we'd gone to Madam Malkin's, and now...
"Next we get to go get our wands!" Rose exclaimed, and started almost running towards one of the buildings. It was an old and shabby building, and the window was covered in dust. The sign above the door deemed it Ollivanders, and everyone seemed especially excited.
As we walked in a curious man with white hair looked up at us.
"I was wondering when you were coming. Looks like multiple of you need wands, hmm?" he said as he walked up to us.
"Yes sir, Mr.Ollivander," Harry replied. Was it just me or did he look slightly nervous?
"All right, who's first?" Mr.Ollivander asked. Albus stepped forward and a tape measure started measuring him all by itself. Mr.Ollivander started handing me boxes to my surprise, and soon my hands were full.
"That's good," he said absentmindedly as he took one of the boxes from my hands. "Try this one Albus," he said quietly as he handed the wand in the box to him. It was barely in his hand for a second before it was grabbed away and Mr.Ollivander. Soon, boxes were being taken rapidly from my arms and the wands handed to Albus. Finally, a plain wand with few carvings on it was handed to him, and as he gave it a wave a stream of red sparks came out the end.
"Bravo," said Mr.Ollivander, taking the rest of the boxes from my arms and setting them on a chair. "Ah, 12 1/2 inches, cedar wood, phoenix feather, an excellent wand. Who's next?" Rose stepped up next and once again my arms were piled high with wand boxes, but unlike Albus, the fifth wand she tried caused a small burst of magic, causing one of the wand boxes to float slightly upwards. "Beautiful, Ms.Weasley, absolutely beautiful, lets see, 13 inches, dragon heartstring, walnut wood. Anyone else?"
I tried to peek around the many wand boxes still in my arms, but found I couldn't, so I simply said in a muffled voice, "Um, I still have to get my wand."
Mr.Ollivander took the boxes from my arms with a curious smile on his face.
"Well, you're not a Weasley or a Potter," he said as he looked at me.
"No sir, I'm Scarlet Westbrook. I'm Emerson Maples cousin."
"Yes, Emerson," he said turning to her, "maple wood, like your last name, unicorn hair, 9 1/2 inches, yes, a very nice wand. You too Fred, with 11 inches, dogwood and dragon heartstring. Don't look so surprised, I remember every wand I've ever sold." He paused for a moment, and only let the measuring tape measure a few different places before making it curl on the ground. He picked up a few boxes, and appeared to be contemplating each choice. "Try this one," his eyes were narrowed slightly, as if he were trying to figure me out just by looking at me. He handed me one wand at a time, but none felt right, and I told him so. He simply sighed, and shuffled to the back of the shop.
"Mr.Ollivander?" I called. He came back with a very old and dusty box. He held on to it for a little while before giving it to me. As my hand fit around it I automatically knew that this was my wand. I was so absorbed in the carvings on the wand that I didn't look up until Ginny gasped and I realized I was floating about a foot off the ground. As soon as I looked up I fell to the ground, not in a complete mess, but not as gracefully as I would have liked. Rose helped me up, then I looked to Mr.Ollivander.
The first thing out of his mouth was, "You're not a Werewolf by any chance, are you?" I shook my head, dumbfounded by the question. "Good, because then hiding this wand away for all this time would have been for naught. This wand is 12 1/2 inches, with alder wood gathered on a blue moon in the spring, and two cores, thestral hair and dragon heartstring. It was an experiment, and it turned out quite nicely, wouldn't you say? I made two of them, and it is interesting that you got this one today... the other one was also sold today. Of course, I can't take credit for the carvings, they were a result of the thestral hair being put in a wand. It is very temperamental, and so sensitive I haven't even bothered to bring them out here to try on customers. This wand also has a certain destiny with a person who isn't quite sure of who they are. I think this is a result of having two cores. I've never used thestral hair in a wand besides this one, and there are only a few in the world, even fewer actually matched to a person." At this point my eyes were wide, as were everyone else's, and I simply was trying to process it all.
"Thank you, sir," Hermione was the first to break out of her daze. We all thanked him and Harry paid for Albus and Roses' wands, but as he tried to pay for mine Mr.Ollivander refused, saying, "It will be payment enough seeing how this plays out." I realized that this was why Harry was so nervous when we stepped into Ollivander's. He was kind of creepy.
We all stepped out of the shop, and everyone wanted to see my wand. I let them see it, but I wouldn't let go.
"I've got a surprise for you all," Ginny said, as she waved Harry and Ron over, who appeared to be carrying multiple bulky things each. "We got you all animals, well, we got a few cages if you want an owl, and we pre-paid for the animals themselves. So, do you want to go pick one out?" We all chorused yes, then made our way to the shop, and quickly picked out our animals.
Rose got a brown owl that she named Archimedes, Albus got an snowy owl he named Freefall, Emerson got a tabby cat she named Bucket, Fred said he already had an owl, as did James, and Lily and Hugo complained when their parents said it was only for people already at or going into Hogwarts. I went to the back of the shop, and found a lovely owl with silvery feathers and big, round eyes. I saw that she had random patches of different colored feathers, and that she'd clearly been back there for awhile. I thought she was beautiful, patches and all, so I got her, much to the surprise of the others. I named her Moondust, and we were on our way after picking up some food.
We said our goodbyes, and after shielding our eyes when Fred kissed Emerson, we all used Floo powder to get home. It was late, so I curled up in bed, and started reading my first textbook. Better know what everyone's talking about as soon as possible. As I looked up at the moon through my window I smiled. It's good to know that I'll know someone at Hogwarts. Even if everyone will recognize them for their famous parents, I'm sure they'll make names for themselves. I guess I'm destined to also, with my weird wand. I run my finger over the carvings, and soon I'm fast asleep.
