You and Me-First Year

A very strict looking woman opened the doors and looked down at us. Her gaze shifted from each student, lingering on Rose and Albus to each of my sides, then almost grimacing as her gaze landed on Scorpius. Apparently this woman had the same impression of Mr.Malfoy that I did.
Hagrid's voice shakes me from my thoughts, "Firs' years Professor McGonagall," he rumbled holding a lantern up.'
"Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them now." She led us into the entrance hall. It was so big! And that's coming from the girl from Texas, where our motto is 'Everything's bigger in Texas.' Well, apparently not hallways. Wait, that sounds weird. Sometimes I want to tell myself to shut up in my head. The best part was the flaming torches lining the halls giving it a truly medieval look. She showed us into a small room, all of us crowding together.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," said Professor McGonagall. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room.
"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.
"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourself up as much as you can while you are waiting. I will return in a few minutes when they are ready." With that she walked out of the room, leaving me even more nervous than before. A test? What kind? I don't want to be tested in front of the entire school! Oh, not to mention all of that dedication to one house. I can never get my priorities straight, and this whole 'your house is like your family' is making me nervous. As I look over at Rose and Albus I'm suddenly glad that I'm not alone. Albus is pale and muttering under his breath, and Rose is... is she practicing multiplication tables? Well, I've had weirder ways of dealing with stress.
"Rose," I say, trying to get her attention. Her head snaps up as she looks at me. "What kind of test is it?"
A relieved smile breaks out on her face, "Oh, is that all you're worried about?" No, It's just the problem I'm dealing with right now, I'll deal with each one separately, but I'll nod so I get my answer, is one of many things that went through my head at that moment. "There's a magical hat that they put on you, and it sorts you based on personality. No problem." I could tell she was convincing herself more than me at that moment, but I smiled and thanked her all the same.
Now for the house itself issue. They say it's fool proof, but they haven't met me yet. I don't have time to worry anymore as Professor McGonagall comes back and says, "They're ready for you. Follow me, in a line now." We all follow her until we reach the Great Hall.
I never had ever seen such an amazing place. It was lit by candlelight, but was still plenty bright as there were thousands of them. The ceiling looked just like the night sky, and for a moment I remembered from one of the books that I read that it was enchanted to look like the sky.
Professor McGonagall put what was undoubtedly was the sorting hat. It was old and dirty, but it had a certain air of importance to it. She stepped back as the hat opened up what appeared to be a mouth and started to sing:

At Hogwarts I was crafted
Many years ago
And through the ages I have seen
Great wizards come and go

Whether gifted with a clever mind
Courage, wit, or virtues
You must stay wary of your talents
And with which purpose they are used

While we glory in these days of peace
We all still must remember
The sacrifices that were made
For our world to continue to prosper

History can repeat itself
Without continued examination
So while you’re learning to use magic
Keep justice as your foundation
