The Necklace-First Year

As I laid down on the bed and looked at the ceiling, a little metal squeak came from something beside me. I rolled off the bed and into a crouch position from surprise. I gingerly looked around, wondering where the squeak was coming from, when another one came, and I realized that it had come from a mail slot, and there was a piece of paper and a box on the ground.
       I bent down and grabbed both of the items. The paper read;

       Dear Scarlet,
If you need to contact any of the founders of Hogwarts, this is how you shall do it. You shall write the information you wish to tell or question you wish to ask on a piece of parchment, then slip it through this slot and whisper to whom you wish it to go. This slot also leads to Scorpius' room, so you may receive or send mail to him, the same way you would to us. In the box you will find a necklace with a simple blue stone. You actually are equal in your qualities of both the houses you were sorted in, but you will choose Ravenclaw in your heart. Scorpius is receiving a ring with an emerald on it, symbolizing Slytherin, as all of his family line is from Slytherin. You both are connected in ways you could never imagine.

We have great hopes for you,
The Founders of Hogwarts

I opened the box and lifted out the necklace. It was beautiful, a blue gem swirled with black with a gold rim and chain.  It shimmered when the light hit it. The stone was cool to the touch, making me think that it had been behind the walls of Hogwarts for a long time. That's when I realized... it had been behind the walls for hundreds of years if the original founders had hidden it there themselves.
I started to put the necklace on, unclasping it and putting it around my neck, but I had trouble with the clasp. As I fumbled, I lost my grip and the necklace started to fall. I put my hands up to catch it, but before it fell two cold hands caught the ends on the back of my neck and clasped the ends together with quick reflexes.
I jumped up and whirled around to see who was there, in the process knocking whoever it was down. As I collected my bearings I looked to see Scorpius grimacing and picking himself up from the ground.
"Blimey, you sure do hit hard," he said with a smirk.
"What are you doing in my room?" I asked him rather harshly.
"No reason in particular," he replied casually.
"Then you will have no problem leaving," I said, unrelenting.
"I think we should talk," he said, looking more and more casual by the moment. It bothered me to no end.
        "About what?"
"About all this," he gestured all about the room.
        "About my room?"
"No, about our whole dorm area."
        "What about it?"
"I just thought you might want to see this, is all."
        "What's 'this'?"
        "You'll see"
He turned and started to walk out of my room.
"Wait! Where are we going?" he just smiled over his shoulder at my question and walked out of the room. I got up and scurried to catch up with him.
He walked over to one of the bookshelves and appeared to be searching for something. I walked up next to him just as he reached over one of the books and pressed his ring into the wood behind it.
"There's a little notch that the stone fits into," Scorpius explained, "Your necklace can do it too."
Just as he finished explaining, the whole bookshelf shimmered, then disappeared, opening into a large room. As we stepped inside the wall behind us re-solidified. I gaped at the room. The walls were lined with cases full of amazing things with amazing labels.
"Potions healing poison, changing appearance, giving luck, causing death, a cloak that is made of magnetic cloth, a necklace that puts its wearer to sleep, a self teleporting scroll... Scorpius what is this place?"
"This is our room of magical artifacts. Apparently they think we're going to need these for something. I personally think that most of these would be better used for pranking," Scorpius said looking at all the shelves, running a finger along some of the artifacts.
"Really, pranking? There's so much good that these things can do and you want to use them for pranking?" I look over just as Scorpius leans over to grab one of the amulets, "Don't touch that!" my voice clearly startles him and he jumps back. "That was a cursing amulet! Unless you plan to get yourself killed, I suggest that you don't go touching magical items that could cut you in half by accident."
He looked almost bashful that someone his own age had scolded him, but he just shrugged and went back to browsing the magical items. There were 3 clocks on the wall, all with different times, so instead of trusting any of them I looked at my watch.
"Scorpius! It's past midnight!" I suddenly realized that I was seriously tired from the long day. "We have classes tomorrow too!"
"So what?" he said, not looking concerned.
"So what? If we want to even be decently alert, then we need to get to sleep!"
Scorpius looked a little miffed, but he shrugged his shoulders and turned back to the entrance. He stopped as soon as he got near it.
"What is is Scorpius?" I asked, ready to get to bed.
"The door re-materialized behind us when we came in," he said, almost in a whisper.
"Yes, and?" I really didn't see where he was going with this.
"And the door didn't have a handle." That's when it hit me.
"We're stuck here?" I nearly wailed.
"Well, we might be..." Scorpius was starting to look as panicked as I felt.
"Okay, let's not panic. There's probably one of those notches in the wood that our gems can fit in, just like on the other side."
"I don't know," Scorpius said, his brow wrinkling,  "I read about that one in the book I was reading when we came in, but it didn't say anything about the other side. This place doesn't appear to be very well known." He was starting to get sarcastic, though I couldn't blame him.
I walked up to the wall where the door used to be and ran my hand along it. "Surely..." I murmured, "AHA!" I felt a long thin carving on the wood. I had a sneaking suspicion that this side couldn't just be opened by out jewelry. I took out my wand and pressed it into the carving in the door. It snapped right in as soon as I had it lined up. I was expecting the door to open, but nothing happened.
I sat down on the floor. I had been so sure that that was it. Scorpius had come over by that point and appeared to be concentrating all of the knowledge that he had into opening this door. He leaned over to examine the spot that my wand had fit into when his wand fell out of his pocket. I reached over and caught it before it hit the ground. Scorpius didn't seem to notice it was missing, so I studied the carvings on it that completed the pattern on my  own wand. Suddenly, I had an idea.
"Hey Scorpius," I said, tugging on his pants leg.
He looked over at me somewhat annoyed to be disrupted from his train of thought. "What?"
"What if your wand has to be on the door too for it to open?" I said, trying not to get too excited in case it didn't work.
"Worth a shot," he said it like he was also trying not to get his hopes up, but we both knew that we wanted to get out of here.
Scorpius leaned down and I handed him the wand. He lined it up with my wand, obviously excited, but still trying to be careful. As the wands got close to each other they snapped together like they did before, pulling Scorpius' wand out of his hand. As soon as both of the wands were on the door, it lit up in a glowing pattern, then disappeared like it had before.
Both of our wands had dropped to the ground when the door had gone. I leaned down to pick up my wand, and apparently Scorpius had the same idea, causing our heads to clash together.
        "OW" we chorused.
As I rubbed my head I leaned over to get the wands (now that Scorpius was sitting on the ground a bit away also rubbing his sore head). I handed his wand to him, then I leaned back against one of the bookshelves. It had been quite the exciting day. The door had re-materialized when we had stepped back through it, and I had no intention in going in there until I really needed to.  And never without Scorpius, or his wand at least. I could do without the prat himself.
What was with that boy? Obnoxious one minute, and decent the next. I suppose I'll have to get used to it, living with him and all. I still can't wrap my head around all that 'two houses' stuff. I mean, I read Hogwarts; a revised history, and it said nothing about this even being a possibility. Oh well, it's too much for right now anyways.
Turning around, I help Scorpius to his feet, and with out a word, we nod to each other and go to our separate rooms.
