6. The beginning of a mermaid life <I>

Beep

Beep

Beep came the loud,shrill and annoying sound of the alarm clock abruptly interrupting my lovely dream.I groggily reached towards it to stamp it off with my hand praying for the noise to stop so I could get back to my dream but i ended up pushing it to the ground and instead of the shrill noise to end or at least reduce it only seemed to increase.

I groaned then opened my eyes.

I reached under the bedside table for the fallen clock that had finally stopped and picked the irritating device up.

I then checked the time.

5:30am! What!

Who was the unfortunate and very much dead person that had set the alarm at this ungodly hour of the morning.

Then my memories of the events of yesterday came flooding back.The pictures flashing in my mind's eyes were unbelievable even to me but they were definitely true.

Yup! I'm a mermaid.

My hand immediately went up in an unconscious movement to my neck and touched the aquamarine colored moonstone at the base of my neck.I looked towards my dressing table mirror and saw that the moonstone was glowing faintly as i touched it,when i removed my hand,it went back to the dormant aquamarine color.

I decided to experiment with it and i removed it from my neck,it then turned to a dull silver colour.

Oh well one thing was clear,i gave the moonstone life when i touched it.I smiled and put it back on.

I looked to the mirror again to check my eye colour.

Yup! My green eyes were still lined with blue.

Oh how i'd hoped the blue line would go away overnight but that was probably just a mere wish of mine.

Don't get me wrong i don't hate this new eye colour,i actually love it and if it wasn't my eye color and it couldn't change my status in school from normal to freak,I'd actually think it is an extremely beautiful work of art.Unfortunately it could blow my human cover afterall no human being had two eye colours.

My aunt had suggested that i wear sunglasses to school today while my dad was getting my green-coloured contact lens.

My green eyes lined with blue was extremely beautiful and according to my mother's diary it shows that i'm a royal mermaid.

In the mermaid world(the sea),royal mermaids were not chosen according to their families as the title implied and the title is not hereditary,they were only chosen by the gods of mermaid(the baiconaidia) as royal mermaids when they had two eye colours.

Though i am still not sure what being a royal mermaid entails.

When i called my grandmother last night,she had been surprised about the two eye colour.she said she hadn't expected it since i was an hybrid.she herself didn't know why i had been chosen as a royal mermaid but she said it was an honour that a member of the Roache family was a royal mermaid.My mum's family name was Roache.

I stood up from the bed after gathering my thoughts and walked to my closet and chose a blue shirt and black skinny zipper cuff jeans since i was supposed to be conspicious and not draw any attention to myself,i was going to practically avoid everyone except Emily today.

After a very hot and refreshing bath as a mermaid,i dragged myself out of the tub.

After my mermaid side had been activated,my element power of air had also elevated to telekineticity and now I could move things with my mind.I carried myself to my bed and used fire to heat my body and watched as the water evaporated away.My legs soon returned and after dressing i went downstairs to get a doughnut and hurried to the pint.It was already 7:30am and my bath had taken longer than i'd planned.

I walked to the pint bouncing restlessly.i was stopped at the entrance by Ryan the son of the owner of the pint.He had been trying to woo me since i clocked 15.He was Devon island's billonaire playboy becuase never mind their small and cozy cafe,the mclarens,who own the pint and are his parents are filthily rich.

Ryan gripped me by my arm gently and curled a fiery tip of my hair around his hand.He smiled at me and pulled me towards him but i successfully evaded him.

"So Rikki why are you wearing sunglasses,its not even sunny or are you trying to impress me",Ryan said smirking at me.

"Don't bother yourself love i like the way you look when you are dressed normally",Ryan continued.

''Its none of your business,Ryan,and you can keep dreaming,cos i have other more important things to do and they don't include impressing you'',I replied moving away from ryan and walking towards I and Emily's favourite booth whilst thinking of unimaginable heat to melt the clouds covering the sun.

Within a few seconds,the sun was shining brightly.

"Plus the sun is shining and as far as I'm concerned,hot sun equals sun glasses...you're losing your touch Ryan",I said tsking at him triumphantly before walking away.

I walked to Emily and I's favourite booth where Emily was drinking coffee and laughing her ass out.

"You and Ryan are such funny people",Emily said before busting into more laughter.

"Indeed",I said dryly ordering for a smoothie to go.

As Emily and I entered the school hallway we sighted Nick leaning on my locker and I panicked.

"Oh what does he want",I asked in a panicked voice.

"Don't worry rikki i'll handle him",Emily said.

"Thanks",I said smiling brightly at her.

I hurried away before Nick could see me and crashed into a muscular wall that turned out to be Brad's chest.

I decided to pretend not to be Rikki but he surprised me by asking,''Rikki why are you dressed like this and why are you wearing sunglasses inside the school''

I groaned mentally,how did he recognize me?

He thrust his hand forward to pull the sunglasses off but I successfully evaded his seeking hands.

How in God's name am I going to get out of this situation,I thought.
