So it wasn't a stupid joke from her back then. They did indeed master some form of magic.
How stupid he had been to think that was a lie. There was actually no other explanation.
Lost in thought, he ran after the two of them. If there was magic, this magic just had to grow stronger than that of the dark.
Then they could defeat them and humanity would be free. A hard lump formed in his throat, that was a task, that had to be his goal.
But something else had suddenly become clear to him. Apart from him, no one reacted strangely to the members of the order, they got into any city without any problems.
Without scrutiny and in the cities, no one looked at them strangely either. Why were they not known to him, but apparently to everyone else?
As if he didn't have enough to catch up, he couldn't remember anything before his thirteenth birthday.
Could it be that his memories were gone because he had already experienced the darkness then and they were erased?
No, that couldn't be, otherwise the darkness would definitely have engulfed him. There had to be another reason for his amnesia.
"Haven't you explained the mantia technique to him yet?"
He saw Aidan pointing to his eyes. Liz shook her head.
"He is practically useless then?"
Liz nodded and Aidan let out a frustrated breath.
"You're better at magic, teach him." She only said before she stopped in front of a large wooden door.
"So, each of you takes a bag. In it you stow twice winter equipment and twice normal."
She explained before opening the door and entering the room. The store was full of clothes, which were stowed in large, open cupboards. These were divided into three departments with small signs.
"Damian, in case you don't know. You can take one more from everything. Since you are now in the Scouts Unit. Tomorrow I expect you in the new uniform."
Damian nodded and grabbed one of the bags that were in a straw basket next to the entrance.
The room was practically completely dark, he could only see something through the light in the corridor. The three soldiers quickly packed the clothes in their bags. When Aidan suddenly looked hesitantly at Liz.
"So are we going north?"
"Yes."
"Just the five of us?"
Liz looked over at him. Something didn't seem right.
"No, with Sasha and Marco's division. So in total we are fifteen soldiers. Plus about thirty volunteers. Why do you ask?"
"Since we don't know how our neighbors feel about us, behind the mountains, it would be foolish to only be five people. Besides, what do we want to find up there?"
"We want to find a way to the neighboring country. Since the mountains were previously insurmountable, we never had contact. Maybe they know more than we do." Aidan nodded without saying anything. So that would be his first assignment, it crossed his mind.
"Who are these volunteers?"
Damian looked directly at his superior. "People who were once saved by us and have supported the order ever since." "Then why am I a mercenary?"
It didn't make sense in his head. Actually, he should have been just a volunteer. Nothing special. Liz looked over at him with a cold look.
"It's because of me." Did she mean dry and so they left the room and went back to the great hall. Where meanwhile only a few soldiers were sitting. The situation seemed to have calmed down again. He exhaled in relief and sat down at the table with the other two.
"Well, the Mantia technique is not difficult." Aidan said without looking at him.
"Practically anyone can learn this magic, no matter how little magic they can use."
He nodded ans saw Aidan who briefly closed his eyes and then opened them again. These now glowed weakly, in a green tone. When he closed it again and then opened it, everything was the same.
"You close your eyes, concentrate completely on it, and then you say Mantia."
He leaned against the table and looked at him invitingly. Immediately he closed his eyes, concentrated like Aidan had said on his eyes and whispered. "Mantia." Then he opened his eyes again and looked at Aidan, who just rolled his eyes.
"It was clear that you wouldn't be able to do that right away."
Annoyed, he put his head on the table. "Just practice as often as you can in a dark room. You will notice when it works." He muttered barely audibly into his arms.
Damian immediately closed his eyes and thought about what Aidan said. It would be easiest if he could concentrate all his thoughts on his eyes.
Tired, he put his head on his arms and almost fell asleep. But one thought never let go of him.
Aidan mastered this technique even better than Liz, although he was otherwise combative.
If they ever mastered magic, Aidan would probably be one of their strongest warriors. The hope of this land.
Yawning, he twinkled, his back still ached from the training. As if someone were ramming knives into it. While his arms were barely noticeable. Train as often as possible, starting tomorrow he should concentrate more on this eye technique.
"When are the others arriving?"
He lifted his head and looked over at Liz.
"In seven days, but we'll wait outside of town."
"No, not again." Aidan mauled. "You like it in the forest, but I hate that. Let's wait in the order."
"No." Certain Liz without arguing. "You know I hate this place."
Then she got up without another word and disappeared. It took Damian a moment to lift his head. If he actually fell asleep, he heard his stomach growl. "That shitty forest witch."
He heard Aidan grumbling angrily to himself.
"What does she have against the Order?"
"Nothing directly. Liz just hates people in general. Actually, the typical lone wolf." Aidan shrugged.
"The reason you're here was because of a deal with the general. She'll be back but only with her student. Don't ask me why."
Again Damian just nodded when he saw more and more people gathering in the hall. All wore the symbol of the warriors on their vests. No one but them seemed to be among the Scouts. Which only raised more questions in his head. The longer he was on the road the more questions arose and he doubted he would ever get them answered.
After a few minutes the hall was full of men and women, everyone was quietly discussing various topics with one another. But actually all the conversations were only everyday talkings, but Liz was nowhere to be seen.
